no lights,hella 500 blowing fuse, ive searched

Ive got my setup EXACTLY like this writeup but only difference is i dont have an auxilary fuse box to run from the switch so i ran the green wire to the positive battery post with the other 2 wires. The relay is clicking off an on with the switch but as soon as i install a fuse it blows when i attempt to turn them on. i cant figure this out for the life of me and ive checked and rechecked connections and like i said they are exactly like the writeup. Im thinking it must have something to do with the green wire from the switch that he ran to a fuse box OR you can splice into the headlights which i dont want to do. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

i went through 8 fuses today trying to figure this thing out and now im thinking MAYBE the wires coming out of the bulbs are touching and blowing the fuse? Mosquitos are too bad to check tonight but if anyone can think of anything else id greatly appreciate it.

what size fuse are you using?

i am running 200watts threw my fuse, i 1st tried it with a 10 amp, blew... 15, blew... 20, blew 30, and it seems to hold untill i touch ground then it blows and works great!


i bet your fuse is way too small for the power you are pushing! let me know what size fuse.. and go bigger!

the daylighters i have are 30 amp fuses on each light

wires arent touching so its not that and im running a 15 amp fuse, same as what came with the kit guess i can try to get bigger fuses and see what happens.

** there shouldnt be a problem with the wire from the switch that needs to go to a constant power source going to the + battery is it? i dont see how that would make any difference but il definitely try a 30 amp fuse and see if it holds up. Thanks for the replies :bigok:

I had the exact same problem when I was installing my Hellas. I was ready to kill someone after a whole day of blowing fuses. The problem is your ground!! I wired mine the exact same way you did, but the problem was that I had my lights grounded to my brush guard, which is powder coated. Not a good ground. So I ended up running longer wires and grounded them directly to the ground on the battery. Problem solved! Haven't blow a fuse since then. Also I would advise you NOT to keep increasing the fuse sizes either. They are meant to be at a specific amp for a reason.

my grounds were good, relay was bad but got it working today. Now if i can just get them aimed just right
