Weather is turning to Poo! Supposed to be 15+mph winds, latest updates call for 70% chance of rain.

Major suckage for beach time fun!

Tides have been up due to tropical activity, but looks like we've got a nice window around scheduled departure time:

Winds are supposed to be out of the N/NE which should help to push some of the water away.

Spoke w/ another friend today - he may bring his F150 or another buddy's jeep (yeah, I know - :barf...

Regardless, conditions like this can make for some fun wheelin if you are properly prepared (proper snivel gear, recovery gear, etc!)

We are going to run it from Sabine Pass to Gilchrist (Roll Over Pass) and get a burger at the Fantasea. I bet we don't see another vehicle out there the entire time!


Edit - they allow dogs (on a leash) at the Fantasea...

Watching the weather - forecast is shifting winds may not be north like we need. If we don't get north winds, the tides may make this un-runnable!

We need to cancel this trip! Sorry, my plan really was to roll even with the expected rain, but the cold front is slowing down. Looks like we're supposed to have 15+mph southerly winds through at least 3pm now (was supposed to be northerly starting at about 8am as of yesterday pm). Tropical activity in the Gulf and the associated lower pressure cause artificially higher tides. Higher tides in conjunction w/ a strong southerly wind means we would probably be trying to drive through the breakers!

Don't want to cancel, but don't really see an alternative. May talk to Mrs. C9 and see if she just wants to make a beach run from High Island to Galveston - definitely NOT the same thing as the No Man's Land run, but a heck of a lot safer given the conditions!

I'm glad we called it off yesterday. Pretty evident we would have had no place to drive (the water was considerably higher yesterday). Aired the tires down to 14 psi and rolled out...

And then we came across this gentleman that drove his Pontiac G6 off the edge of the old road bed. Motor sounded bad ass! Hooked up to his rear axle and gave him a quick pull and he came right out...

The Fantasea in GilChrist was closed so we rolled on to the Tikki beach bar and grill in Crystal Beach. Had a bowl of gumbo and some fried jalapeno pickles and headed for the house....

Welcome! We'll get something organized soon - the tropical disturbances in the gulf have been keeping the water so high, this run is impossible to make. We should settle into a more normal winter time weather pattern soon and make a beach run then.

Cool Deal! I have a 4wd tundra and the wife has the 4R. We'd be glad to take either and make a day run with ya'll.

I've run this beach several times from the High Island end, but never went more than ~ 10 miles by myself. If y'all getting another run together let me know, i'm a shift worker and usually available.

Anyone do this recently? I’m looking to try it out later in January. Any new tips or other recommendations in the Houston are? I’m curious as to where exactly people get on and off the beach for this run.

Just joined this forum and stumbled across this thread while looking for interesting trips to take my new 2018 TRD ORP. I'm guessing the majority of this trek has changed considerably since Harvey, but I'm always up for taking a day trip and giving it a shot.

For anyone else interested, I took this route today. Easily passable. Very fun drive. My only complaint is the amount of trash on the beach in Sea Rim State Park. It was disgusting and I've never seen anything like it.
