Pismo trip - July 22
Truck did great. Aired our KO2’s down to 20 psi which provided a ton of traction, floatation and comfort. Spent about 3-4hours on the sand cruising the beach, running the dunes, and goofing around/playing in dunes.
Had traction boards and recovery gear, but didnt need it.
Was honestly surprised how much of the dunes area has been closed.
Daily day use limits were being enforced and they sold out of passes around 11am. One way around this is to grab a camping permit for about $17 which is a separate “tally” independent of the 2k day passes. Also, you get to check-in around 9am and don’t have to “check-out” until 6pm the next day, so you basically get 2 days of dune time with in/out privileges. Only caveat is you have to snag them early prior to your trip.
Anywho, we had a blast, loved the area and i’m glad my girls had a chance to enjoy the area if it’s ultimately shuttered.
Also, for folks reading this who are still on the fence about getting a 4runner, or are researching 5th gens for the first time:
We have not found the limits of capability with this truck yet. It’s taken everything we’ve thrown at it with what i’d call very mild mods.
In the same regard, this road trip took us from San Diego to Pismo with a lot of road miles in quiet comfort. We cruised at about 70-75mph (or more in some cases…lol) and were confident (as in our backcountry exploring) in the reliability of our Toyota.
Just really happy with the utility our choice in the 4runner has brought us at this point.
