No new 6th gen 4runner? All electric by 2030

So with Toyota’s announcement of 30 new ev’s b/t Toyota and Lexus and unavailing all the models… no 4runner in sight.

Didn’t sound like they were planning on producing ice (internal combustion cars) along side ev’s. So?

The ev runner should have been there.
Are they working on one? Will they be?
Will they stop the current one anyday?
Continue making it till 2030?

Since the 6th gen hasn’t been revealed yet, not surprising it didn’t show up here. I’m sure there will be an electric 4Runner, and it will have a its own release.

Wow. This is interesting. I'm very skeptical of the longevity of these EV's.

Why? Electric Motors have been around forever. Thermally managed Batteries are proving good for 300,000 miles (80% capacity). There will be quality and reliability issues as there are with any product. I am an engineer for an EV company, and I would recommend waiting until battery tech has leap frogged a few more times ~3-8 years from now. Solid State is on it's way and will be a game changer with at least double the energy density and nearly none of the current liquid lithium ion volatility (FIREEEE!!)

I'm fairly confused at what I'm looking at otherwise. They all look the same except the Tacoma and FJ thing.

Don’t get too excited yet. These are all very early concepts of body styles. Empty shells. Notice that only two even have interiors. The rest have blackened windows. So much will change over the years. This is just PR to drum up interest in Toyota’s sudden commitment to EVs.

That's like Toyota's entire line right now man, providing "customer choice" between EVs and ICE and very much *not* going all in on EVs. You should really have another listen if you didn't catch that.

If you were planning on buy a new SUV in the next year, would you stick with an ICE, or go traditional Hybrid, or PHEV?
I plan on keeping the vehicle for 8+ years.
I am very interested in hearing what someone in the field thinks. I have to admit that driving a car that gets 15mpg weighs on my conscious a bit (as well as my wallet, right now).

What I said is that showing an image of a pipeline vs a mine and saying that's enough to settle a very nuanced and complex topic is stupid.
As you point out there's far more that goes into it. The solutions we have at the moment are so far from being optimal that we can't make a truly good decision no matter which way we go.
All mines look a lot like the image you posted, whether it be iron ore, cobalt, lithium, coal, or whatever resource we have to mine for. None of it comes without harm. As you point out the slave labor issue around mining is reprehensible and its not limited to any particular resource although lithium and cobalt have definitely come to the forefront as of late. Pipelines leak oil an average of 8400 gallons a day in the US. Oil rigs that run dry are rarely decommissioned b/c it's cheaper to just let them go and the regulations are rarely enforced.

It's complex and nuanced. Dumbing it down to a meme is, well, dumb.

All that said, did some quick research on solid state and it looks like it makes sense to wait until those batteries are ready.
