No rear heat??

Has anyone had any issues getting the rear heater to blow hot air? I guess I never checked to see if it worked when I acquired the vehicle, but with a newborn in the backseat now it is now a must! Is there a separate coolant line for the rear heater similar to the 3rd gens? Ive got a 2004 4runner limited v6 for reference. Hoping its not a major issue, but have not found any help online so far.

Heat comes out of the floor vents under the front seats. A/C blows out of the vents at the back of the console.

What he said. I was surprised, as well. My 2nd gen had a glorious heater core in the armrest and when you turned on the fan back there, it blew heat delightfully up between the front seat and the door. It was wonderful.

The way the 4th gens do it seem like a huge step backwards.

Thanks for the info guys. My fj62 blows tons of heat out of the rear so was surprised heat only comes out of floor vents in the newer 4runner. I've never had an issue with heat otherwise (knocks on wood)

In my 2004 I have heat coming out of the vent in the back of the console as well albeit not as much as you would think would come out.

I agree it's a step backwards for performance. 3rd gens having a separate heater core was super nice. However, in the rust belt having those extra lines was a huge problem with corrosion. I much prefer the simple single core. I adjust the vents to blow back for rear passengers.

i have a 2004 as well and feel the air blowing back there when i have my heat on. just as he or she said ^ it feels somewhat faint but still noticeable.
