Replacing the radiator is easy enough try that first.
Did you replace the trans after the milkshake? Do you have reverse when the trans is cold, or does it only disapear after everything is heated up or overheated in your situation?
Sitting for so long may have caused some dirt to get into the valve body or it could be an issue with contamination on the clutch packs.... Might be best to head to a Transmission shop and ask if a full trans flush has a chance of knocking things back into working order, but my guess is a full rebuild might be in order.
i think you have a trans issue too. the only possible thing i could see is your coolant got so hot that it heated the trans fluid to the point where it would not allow the truck to shift -at that point you should of had the AT temp light come on in the dash, and you would have almost guaranteed blown the radiator at that temp. im me we are talking like 300+*... i think you have a trans issue that is lurking in the shadows...
I thought all was good until my way home. Fluid levels are good.
I got home, tried backing in the driveway, and no reverse. So I thought at least. I could give it a lot of gas, and that would get it to move. I didn't feel like it should, there was a lot of resistance in reverse. Also, when going from drive to neutral, neutral never fully engaged. I could give it some gas in neutral, and still go forward. I'm now thinking a new transmission is in order.
Now I'm looking for a new transmission.
Did you ever figure this out? Did you have to get a new transmission (OUCH!!)? If so...what did they say the cause of the failure was?
Thanks...

Escaped again with no major damage. Ended up being the thermostat that was causing the issues. Did a coolant flush for good measures, and replaced the hoses as well.
