No start after timing belt service

Thanks. I don’t believe I touched that bolt. I’m currently having issues cranking my 97 after I finished the timing belt job that I follow to the T from Timmy. All it will do is turn over. I seems to turn over just fine, but it will not fire up.

I had pinched the crank position sensor wire underneath the timing cover once and the truck wouldn't fire up. Got lucky and cel popped up with p0335. Had to resolder the wire and it fired right up.

Mine is in the slot. The plug side appears to be frayed but watching the Timmy the Toolman video, his looks the same as mine. I began to break it down again to check the timing but I ran out of time today. I’ll get back on it Friday.

For the crank seal, a 1" PVC pipe coupler works well as a seal pushing tool if you dont have one. I just did the crank seal on my truck while setting the timing a couple weeks ago.

That’s a good idea. I lucked out and go it in straight just tapping around it

It’s plugged in. Just not “clicked” in. The gunk on it won’t let it lock but it’s on there good.

Clean the connector with electrical contact cleaner as best as you can and try to get it to seat fully. Were you able to check the rpm gauge while cranking?

I’ll try that. I have not checked the RPM gauge. What am I looking for?

When cranking your rpm gauge should show more than 0 rpm's. If it doesn't then there is a problem with the crankshaft sensor and/or crankshaft sensor circuit.

Turned the cam 4 times all appear to be still lining up.

Anything look off? Yes I know there’s a ton of gunk. Was there when I bought it and I really don’t plan on cleaning it

Every thing looks good except I don't see the dimple on the crank sprocket. I can see the paint mark lined up correctly. Could be an after market sprocket.

I don’t see it either. And no key in view. Even aftermarket the key should be visible.

There should be a dimple on the reluctor wheel on the engine side of the crankshaft timing gear. That dimple is your timing mark for the crankshaft timing gear.

Hmmm I’ll see if I can find it. I was not aware of the dimple

The key is Just visible at ~7-oclock, the corner is just peaking out behind the washer. My personal photos aren't very good, but it sure looks like the dimple is the 2nd spline clockwise of the key, which matches Spartacus's photo.

You'll have to take the tensioner off. Reload it in a vise with the pin or Allen wrench or you can use a Schley (SCH97300). Set timing again wth the crank shaft sprocket mark dimple like my pic. There is also a notch mark on the harmonic Balancer that lines up with the 0 timing mark. Also the two revolution double check should have the cam and cranks mark line up but the marks on the belt will be off.

I’m pretty sure this was the problem. Thanks guy. The only thing that stands in front of me now is a broke tensioner bolt.

It’s running great. As always I came out with extra parts. I have a small and short gold bolt with a washer. No clue where it went. Any clue?

I would guess either the metal plate that goes behind the timing belt where the cam sprocket marks are or the bracket that holds the wiring harness to the block below the crank sprocket, both use that type of bolt
