No Start, No Crank PROBLEM

So it all started when the car wouldnt crank. There was this weird click noise and then a buzz. The negative terminal on the battery was loose so i replaced the terminal but it still doesnt work. The thing is, I have to try starting the car many times before it actually starts. Its not the cables or battery ( they are clean) I havent checked if there is any current loss between the cables and the starter solenoid. I also checked the battery which is new and it was at 12.55V and did a load test which was at 11.4V. But its really weird. I'm not sure what this could be. I could post a video if that would help more. I dont think its a fuse because the car still starts sometimes. maybe the Starter but it was replaced along with the alternator 2-3 years ago. It sounded like the click was coming from the drivers side not the passenger where the Starter is ( 3.4L Sr5 V6). Thank you very much and if this doesnt help then ill just have to take it to a mechanic.



So incase anyone has the same problem and stumbles across this post. It was the starter, got it replaced for the first time. 310,000km. Toyotas are the best!

Well, if your battery is t 11.4V when trying to start, then it should turn the starter. The only thing it could be at that time is the cable to the starter or the starter itself. If the replacement starter wasn't OEM, it could be going bad again.

Put a test light on the small terminal on the starter and see if you have voltage when you turn the key. Then confirm you have voltage full time on the large terminal. If yes to both, your new starter is crumping out--probably the plunger/contacts. Not unusual for cheap remans.

If no to either, post back and we can troubleshoot it.

Sounds like starter for sure. Mine just started doing this but it hasn't gotten bad yet. I'm gonna pick up some contacts for the starter before it gets too bad. Although it Hasn't done it since I cleaned off the connections to the starter.
