Noclinkers 96 Runner

Thought I would post my build over here. I have it posted on another board and most who look at these things have probably seen it before, but I am spending more time here and it seems as though it's never done anyway, so I will keep adding to it.

It has been awhile since some of this was done and I am not putting much detail into the thread, but if there are any questions about anything just ask and I will give more details.

This is my new to me runner. I want it to be fairly capable, but also be able to drive cross country if I want.

This is the one I am scrapping (have scrapped). It wheeled well, but had terrible road manners and I had swapped in a 4.3 before I knew better.

Getting the Ford tank ready to go in. I am going to use all the Toy stuff out of the old tank, so here it is all prepped and ready to go back together. I will probably take it and have it tigged together.

I did get the first case in and the shifter bent so it would work in the stock location.

Looks like the second tcase will line up right in front of the parking brake lever. That should work out good.

Got the second case in and got the stock cross member cut out.

I clocked the second case so it looks like I will have a flatter (not totally flat) belly about 2" below the frame.

Working on tcase crossmember. Front Range Stopped making the clocked version, so I cut the regular one apart to make it work.

Spent some time getting all the Toy fuel pump and sending unit ready to go in the Ford tank. Had to shorten everything 4.5"

Now I'll take it to town and get it tigged so I don't warp it and it doesn't leak.

I also need to find a speed control sensor from a Tacoma chain drive tcase. The 4runner does not have one and the ABS in the stock axles control the speedo and VSS input to the PCM. Since I don't have the stock axles I need the controller from the Tacoma and then wire it into the Runner PCM.

Got the ph/ steering frame brace made
This is upside down and backwards but shows the braces/gussets whatever you call them for added side load strength.

Inside

Bad picture of it in place. Just need to weld it now.

I also got the steering done. Not too happy with the angle, but it rotates smooth and there is not much I can do to change it?

Ford gas tank installed:

Per portioning valve and line lock

Braced shock hoops hopefully will not need a brace in the engine compartment.

I like the build, but if what you wanted was something with strong solid axles and big tires, why did you start with a 4runner?

It would be cheaper to start with a cherokee, bronco, discovery, 3/4 ton dodge or ford...etc
