NoCo Genius Onboard Charger

Even the 4A model would be "enough". I mean over a 24 hour period that's 96 Ah back in the battery.

I think I'll just grab the 15amp model next time I have some spare cash. My existing tender is a 1amp, just checked, it's literally just a tender, not a charger.

Would you recommend the 10a 1x bank charger, and just maybe velcro it to the side front face of the battery, and leave it for charging? Basically just leave it attached rather than getting one with clips?

Maybe I'm overthinking it.

I dunno- I like mine because it maintains both my batteries. Where it's mounted I can see the status LEDs to know when they are fully charged and it's really easy to plug into my bumper when I need to. Simple and clean.

Here's my scenario, I live in an apartment, and all the parking spaces are festival style, so no assigned spots. But all the spots have standard Edison Plug outlets above them.

So it's more that I could plug it in, and let it just keep the battery charging when I'm away on business, or charge it up when I'm about to head out of town with the vehicle.

If that makes sense.

So for me it's not about speed, just keeping it on a tender that'll keep the battery in good health, either right before a road trip/expo, or when I'm away on business.

Given that speed isn't critical do you think the G15000 is worth the cash? Or am I just overbuying and should I do that 10amp single connection? Only downside to the cheaper one is it's kind of slow to move between vehicles.

Thinking the G15000 will work great. Additional benefit would be you can also use it to jump someone else.

One variable that hasn't been answered for me is how necessary is it for an Odyssey battery to receive higher amperage for better health? Guess a call to them is in order...

Another option that's is listed on the sheet is https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000...ti+us+7002&dpPl=1&dpID=41jilRA8mDL&ref=plSrch but I'm still partial to the NOCO.

When I first installed mine it took about that long to "restore" that diehard, subsequent times were 2-7 hours. So I am obviously no electrical engineer, I will say from what I have read that as long as you are simply maintaining a battery, or charging from a 80% or better the 4a or any model that puts out between 14.4 and 14.7 is totally adequate. Odyssey suggests that for charging a fully discharged battery that you us a charger that has their specific charge profile. See page 13 here:

lol I like where I can see my charge state :D of course I still have to open my hood to plug it in :(

I would love to add a charger to my vehicle. Though I would love to have the ability to use it to keep the batteries tops when using my fridge, tent heater and other component when at a campground with power. For other times Off grid I have to rely on the batteries and work out my usage schedule and stay under that unless I can top off the charge. I do keep a lion jump start battery think the xc-1 in the truck just in case I happen to come to a dead battery and greta for emergency phone or radio calls when you have run out of juice.

I went with the noco 4amp mini. It's pretty small and tops up the battery perfectly as I rarely drive the truck. I just plug it in once a week overnight and it completes the charge cycle in about 12 hours. Here's my mounting location, so far has not been in the way.

This thread kind of went over a lot of issues I've been considering. Does anyone have any insight on what worked and what didn't 2 years later?

I'm about to get a 31M battery and was looking at the NOCO Genius GEN1 10A On-Board battery charger but the reviews it got about boiling people's batteries scared me. I'm pretty open to getting the best quality to make this thing last.

Thanks!

I'm still happy with my NOCO 4A, I've got mine mounted to the top of the fuse box.

That's great to hear. Is charging weekly still something you think is about right? Also, do you both charge in your garages with the hood open?

I'm a carport dweller and am kind of considering the plug they sell.

An alternative is to just get a battery tender and use one of their plugs mounted on the battery. I also have their 20 ft extension cable so I don't have to move the tender. I open the hood plug and plug it in once a month over night.

I have the two battery bank tender shown here...Also have one of those plugs permanently mounted to my motorcycles battery and it stays plugged in when not riding of course. This has worked for me and my batteries are very happy.

I have a plug installed in the cowling below the hood I attach the extension cable so my hood is closed. Before I had the plug I would just leave the hood resting on the latch

A week or so sounds right assuming your running a fridge, less frequent in cold weather. (That will also depend on how much youre driving daily)

Sounds good. What amount of daily driving impacts charge frequency, do you think?

Also, how do you like your bluetooth monitor? Would you recommend it?

Hmm, no boiled battery. You put in a 31m and you will have to maintain it, religiously. Driving helps but your still going to need to top it off often to keep it in good shape. You r driving habits, environment, temps, what you have connected to it, too many variables to determine exactly what you need to do with it. You going to have to monitor the thing until you figure out how it is behaving, then determine what you need to do to keep it healthy.

I have the Gen1 mini 4amp for almost 4 years. I use it every other week, usually a few days at a time. Two years later, I just checked it the other day, my Odyssey is holding at 12.8ish +-.05 after approx. 8 hour rest.

The only battery issue I have had so far (you may have seen I posted in another thread you were in) the older Diehard 31m case cracked around the terminals, a known issue many people have had with that battery.

When I had an hour-ish commute and was driving to project sites frequently I would only see the voltage getting low after a few weeks, now that I have a 15min commute and am in the office pretty much all day I see the voltage dropping after about a week. In the most severe circumstances (mostly empty fridge, high ambient temps, 30min/day driving) I actually saw the fridge shutoff from voltage protection after a week. I charge overnight multiple times a week now since it's so easy to do now that I'm not living downtown with on-street parking, but weekly would probably be plenty.

The BT battery monitor works pretty well, it occasionally has hiccups or won't pair buy generally it works fine. I wish there were some changes, for example being able to set the percent charged voltages, but for the low cost it's worth it. One app update made it stop working, I emailed the developer and they actually pushed another update and emailed me back to say that should fix it (it did), so it seems to have active support. It doesn't have the features that a nice battery monitor syatem has, but it works well for the price.

I run the plug under the garage door and to the charger plug. I routed mine out the bottom and it lays nicely inside the bumper when not in use. Put a terminal cover originally meant for engine block heater to keep it clean.

I charge overnight every week as truck never gets driven except for camping trips. Takes about 12 hours with 4 amp charger and never had any boiling issues or anything. That's why I went with the 4A, takes longer but probably easier on the battery.
