noise comming from the rear of my 4runner limited

I just brought home my '14 and danged if this didn't happen to me! I thought it was a fuel pump pressurization issue. Just found this forum and joined right up. Thanks, folks.
 
Ditto, feeding the cats b4 bed in the garage & first thought it was one of the fluorescent lights producing a different noise. Went back in but cut off the lights first noticing the additional noise didn't go away. Searched it to the fuel tank area. Oddly just poking around I opened the gas cap hearing a rush of pressure and the little pump noise immediately ceased. Didn't investigate enough to tell if it was positive or negative pressure. However didn't immediately smell fuel fumes so I would guess negative. Then I immediately came here for a quick search of noises. Lol Crazy I found the answer probably faster here than searching the owners' manual.
 
I can't keep track of all the stuff my LE does on its own. It knows when I'm coming, leaving and when I've broken some secret rule because it sets of an alarm of some sort.
Can't tell you how many times I've gone to leave it and I stand there talking to it, "Ok, what did or didn't I do this time?"
I must look like an idiot to passers-by talking to an empty truck with the door open.
Usually it's the keyless thing is on the wrong push or I forgot to put it in park or I'm washing it and the key fob is in it and the soap suds set off the handle sensor.
It's always something and I have had my Wife run in late at night from the garage and say, "I think your truck is going to blow up!"
Funny.
 
Had this happen tonight for the first time. I went into the garage to adjust the timing on the sprinkler system & as soon as I turned the knob I hear this buzzing. I figure its something with the sprinkler solenoid & I'm running around trying to figure out where the noise is coming from. Finally I localize it to the rear of the 4Runner & it sounds like the fuel pump, I'm thinking WTF. I started it & turned it off & it went away.
Next stop - search the forum & sure enough here's my answer :thumb: :cheers:

This thing really had me going for awhile!
 
Just experienced this last night for the first time. Unscrewed the fuel cap and it left off a bunch of pressure from the gas tank. Noise stopped.
 
Heh, yeah it's like a humming on mine and I HATE it when it wakes me up at 1am when I'm sleeping in the back on a wheeling trip :D
 
Thanks for the info. Wife went out to the garage to have a cigarette and came and told me about the noise. Skimmed thr owners manual with no luck, but found the answer here.
 
I'm new to this but I have a 5th gen 4runner trail and my question is what is the noise I keep hearing resonating out from the rear driver side fender well, I have a full skid on my gas tank, it sounds like a spray paint can... I was told this is normal from the dealer being the skid plate is changing the sound of fuel pump/return line.

did you read this thread or the owners manual?
 
Yes I did read... it's not the evap leak check it does after a few hours I'm sorry I failed to mention it does this during idle it's faint but you here it,
 
Sounds like the fuel return line in the fuel tank but you normally wouldn't here it but with the full gas tank skid it's making the sound seem louder than normal and resonating out, my toyota did put a new fuel pump in but it still did it so with further investigation of the fuel lines and actually taking the time to figure it out they said it actually had to do with the skid plate changing the harmonics of it.

I read this and it makes sense to me that this is what i heard because the sound was very close to the fuel filler/tank area. It says "Approximately five hours after the engine is turned off, you may hear sound coming from under the vehicle for several minutes. This is the sound of a fuel evaporation leakage check, and it does not indicate a malfunction". Hope this helps!!

I had been wondering what the noise was. I was going to ask the next time I was at the dealer.
 
Thank goodness for this forum! I experienced this slight buzzing noise this past Saturday when I got back to my car after about 4-5 hours of fishing. At first I thought it had something to do with my KDSS LOL.
