Noise from Driver Side

I had a similar noise that I lived with for a long time after first lifting my truck. It occurred when backing up and first hitting the brakes, then when shifting to forward the first time brakes are applied. From the video, mine sounded more like "metal to metal" than yours seems.

I checked brakes, sway bars, every nut and bolt associated with the lift kit, differential drop, skid plates......everything I thought.

I had to replace my inner CV boots due to leaking ( Did all of them actually ), and after repacking with grease and replacing the boots my noise is gone. I also replaced brake pads and rotors at the same time but am fairly certain that was not the noise.

I'm sure mine was the CV joints knocking due to lack of good grease, If I have to do this again I will buy the extended CV shafts/boots offered for lifted runners. I cant remember the vendor, but at the time I couldn't wait for delivery and just used Toyota CV boots.

Good luck, I searched forever and thought I would never find it.

Much appreciated! My thoughts are on cv, caliper, or shocks. I'm gonna try a local mechanic that I trust and go from there

If your local mechanic has a lift, try running it and turning with all 4 wheels off the ground.

See if it shows up with motion, turning the wheels, or under load. At least it can be reproduced at low speeds, so a bit more reasonable to test

I think i may have the same noise. I thought it was the drive shafts at first and I greased them and the u-joints and it still makes the noise. I'll look around the control arms and the cv's and see if I can't come up with something.

Still haven't pinpointed the noise... Beginning to think its suspension noise because today as I was driving in the woods, the bumps duplicated the noise but not as loud...

My first guess would be someone sitting next to you hitting a large pan with a wooden spoon. That sound resonates, it's weird.

Have you tried banging on stuff to see what makes the sound?

I'm going to feel really stupid if that's not the sound you are talking about.

For whatever it's worth, about a week ago my '08 2WD started making the same noise. I've not had a chance to investigate it yet, but my first thought was sway bar end links too.

It sounds like something hitting the brake shield but theres nothing touching it.

I changed my brakes all around and discovered the top caliper bolt to be loose. So far so good and no more noise

Finally got mine solved today as well. Apparently alignment bolts got a little loose and that was enough to cause the noise. New alignment and torqued down bolts makes for much quieter parking lot maneuvers.

Hopefully I won't run into that anytime soon. My 4runner has spent all it's life in Florida so no rusty undercarriage for me lol

I was going to say something along the lines of a loose caliper or missing holder tab for the pads and would let them wiggle in the holding bracket of the caliper. Glad you found it though.
