noises on my 4runner

Anyone heard these noises on 03 4runners (except the rattling sunroof and driver seat) ??

(1) Loud, strange sound comes from under the truck when shifting gear from R to D (or from P to R and then D, or from D to R) AND releasing the brakes. The sound comes at the exact moment when the brakes are released. It sounds like somebody is walking on a 100 yr old wooden floor, or like the hull of a sinking ship is about to break into half or like a submarine is about to be crushed in deep sea. It's hard to describe the sound exactly, but if you watch "Titanic" or any war movie, you'll know what I mean. I think it sounds more like the gears are not engaged properly and are "scratching" each other.

(2) Sometimes there is a short "push/drag" feel from the transmission when I release the brakes (but before I press the accelerator.)

(3) Whinning (down) sound from the wheels when I press the brakes (and sometimes it continues until a few seconds after the truck is fully stopped). It sounds like a robot moving it's arms in any sci-fi movies.

(4) Clicking sound from the wheels when the truck is running over a speed bump.

(5) Clunking sound, sometimes, when I turn the steering wheel all the way to left or right. This happens at low speed. I remember there's a TSB on ball joint, but not sure if this is the case.

I don't remember my previous 97 4runner ever gave my any "issues". The only thing ever "broke" on my 97 4runner was an engine sensor that responds a little slower that triggered the engine light. Looks like I should wait and get a 04 4runner.

Answer for problem #5

I noticed the same thing months ago with my '03 runner when turning the wheel all the way to the left or right at low speeds. Apparently, all 4th gen 4runners have "steering stops." If you look underneath the car from the front, you can see them. They're supposed to be covered in grease all the time, but mine were bone dry, so the metal rubs against metal and it makes a horrible sound. The dealer greased em up with lithium grease or whatever, and it's been fine ever since.
