hello all my wife and I have a 99 4runner 4wd 3.4 V6 5spd and she drives it mostly. today she told me that it has been dying on her while driving, it normally starts right after it died and she told me today that it started but died right after and she had to wait a bit before starting it. I've been using the search tool like crazy and it looks like everyone's dying while driving is a bit different can you all maybe point me in the right direction. and if its the fuel pump is it difficult to do on this model? thanks for any informative info.

Have you had it scanned for any OBD codes?

Besides checking for codes, the classic culprits are the fuel pump, or, even less expensively the fuel filter.
My local independent shop charged me between $200 and $250 labor to change out the fuel pump on my old '91 truck, which is extremely similar in design to your(and my) '97 4Runner.

Fuel filter would be first guess if hasn't been changed yet, cheap easy job. Next would be fuel pump, also simple job if fuel tank is on empty. Guessing!!

I did fuel filter myself when i got my truck, easy peasy. Follow the write up, do it where there's plenty of ventilation and NO SMOKING!

If that's the culprit your wife is gonna crap herself when she feels the difference with a new oem filter.

replaced the fule filter on my truck right when i got it and it ran better, 10$ part and 10 minutes of work.
