Noob questions

now, my car is almost at the range that I can trade her in.. so I am taking a closer look to 5gens..

I realize that hood scoop doesn't come on an SR5.. my question is this:
is there any special reason for the scoop on the higher level models?
Can I just buy a hood from a Trail edition or will I have any fitment issues?
Is there a way to ask dealer for that hood on an SR5?

I know it is silly, but I want the damn scoop:sobbing:

Looks like a trail hood will cost you about $327.19 from toyotapartsales.com.

ToyotaPartSales.com

Don't know about fitment or any other parts you might need, though.

the hood scoop comes with trail edition only. BUT, i'm sure you could but it. I've read threads were the dealers asked for VIN numbers when ordering the hood. Some guys got VINs off of ebay, when talking to the dealerships.

I have no idea as far as if it will fit. My gut says yes it will fit, but, i have no idea.

Do not buy it from the stealership, buy it from toyotapartsales.com. The hoods are all interchangeable. The scoop is just for aesthetics, it has absolutely no function. The actual scoop is covered, same goes for tacoma scoop hoods, their not open like the hoods on wrx sti's (we don't have top mounts lol). I don't think you need anything else for it, you'll have to get it painted, I think thats it.

All the hoods on 5th Gens are interchangable.
Pretty sure that hood above listed by sp8ball doesn't come with the scoop and related hardware/seals and such as that is sold separately.
You might be able to just buy a scoop and related hardware and any reputable body shop can cut out the hole and attach it to a SR5/Limited hood. You should check first to make sure!Best to look at a TE with the scoop in person first to make sure of the shape. The scoop/#18 is $71.98 and here is the link.TE Hood scoopPretty sure it will just come primered and ready for paint but would be easier to just wrap it.

I had the scoop on my last 4th Gen Sport and it definitely caught it's fair share of bugs and was a pain to clean.

Nothing would cheapen the look of an awesome truck more than throwing on a double sided sticky tape hood scoop. Whenever someone sees it... they'll know exactly what you do... that you just threw that on there.

You'll be surprised how much faster your vehicle will be with that scoop. Adds at least 15 hp !!

Agreed, but you forgot to mention a huge gain in MPGs. At least 25 extra mpg due to a huge increase in induction pressure... :)

form follow function

My scoop is pretty good at collecting bugs, I have collected several large green dragonflies with it. So, if you are interested in Entomology a TE scoop would seem the way to go.

I think they make the hood shake more ... no witty comment comes to mind.

My 20 month old approves of the hood scoop for this very reason.

Plus it adds extra glare.

Well, I spoke with a dealer.. and looked at both hoods. they are identical on the inside.
Kind of dissappointed that it is not functional, but I can always fix that.
I perfectly realize that it will yield no gains, it is a purely aesthetic item for me. It feels like the design is more complete with it.. that's all.

otherwise, i'm just going to do some custom work on a hood. But, for ~350, I think an OEM hood is a winning solution..
anywho, I have the answer. now, I am off to pick out my next sound system..

thanks for your help, lads.

Well if you're going to buy a magnetic gray SR5 and live near me, I might be inclined to get rid of my scoopy hood in the form of a trade. Maybe.

ok, another stupid question..

Was at the dealership last night (was showing my dad what car i'm looking at), and the sales person asked me what my plans are on this car etc..

Then he goes to ask which options I want, and asks if the sunroof is a must..

I was under impression that 4R are coming witht he sunroof no matter what.. am I wrong?

It's not standard. However, it is included with most "packages".
