Nooo! My windshield

Well..it happened...I was driving down I-95 and they paved 2 left lanes and forgot sweep or something because I got bombarded by pebbles that vehicle front of me was kicking. I was like damn...then I look at driver side/lower left and discovered a crack. Driving all bitter....then I turned my head for a second and looked at it again and WHAM! Over a foot long crack! I'm so PO'd!!
Anyways, I was wondering is this covered under warranty? I already checked my insurance and appearantly they don't offer glass coverage! Blasphemy! I was also looking at Safelite for a quote and I got $215. Should I replace it or repair? I don't even know if the repair's possible
Shoulda invested in a damn bug shield, but non of them come in white.

Since it was in a construction zone, you should find out which government entity is in charge of the project and contact them. For an interstate, it should be your state's Department of Transportation. File a claim with them, telling them the story about the debris all over the road thanks to the paving work.

Insurance usually covers glass breakage under the comprehensive portion of your policy, and that deductible would apply. I remember when there was such a thing as zero-deductible glass coverage, but most agencies in most states have eliminated that. Some still offer free glass repair for chips, but that won't help you with cracks. The merits of a repair are even debatable... some say it doesn't help and even makes it worse.

You'll have little chance collecting anything from the state since you can't really prove it's their fault and yes,I've tried a couple of times.
I have a $100 deductible for windshields but my brother is an installer and gets PPG glass for just under $100 and he installs it for a case of beer.

Buy a bug guard and paint it white.

I'm not so sure a bug guard would have been much help... Hell, they don't help much with bugs, why would they on a heavier rock...

Anyways, I've used Safelite before and they did a good job. State Farm insuarance picked up the bill with $0 deductible and this was for OEM Toyota Glass about 2 years ago.

buguards are more for the lip of your hood but they do keep some rocks away from the windshield.

My friend says how the bug shield shifts the aerodynamic of the vehicle allowing rocks to overshoot the windshield or something....

To some degree that's true. It's easier for bugs instead of rocks, as bugs are lighter. The rocks you're afraid of are bigger and will have more momentum which will be harder to divert just by changing the air flow over the hood.

Well...replaced the windshield for $227 through safelite. It was quicker than changing oil. My wipers squeak though...annoyance Safelite used their own windshield. No more of them rain-x coating thing like OEM. I'm satisfied with the install except the damn squeaks. How do I reduce the squeak? The installer did tighten my wiper 'cause he said it was loose. May be if I loosen it back? Who knows! Bleh. I need to buy a bug shield. Weak A$$ OEM windshield!

P.S. Installer told me he had 2 more 4runners scheduled that day and that he's done so many 4runners that it's easy for him to swap the shields. :nono:
