Well here we go,
Finally got myself a 4runner and am now wondering why it took so long to actually do it. Have always liked them, tidy little toys that are pretty capable out of the gate. Going to be using it for lots of camping trips a little off roading (lets see how deep the rabbit hole goes) and a general run around truck.
Stats.
2001 4runner sr5, black on grey cloth, 230k+ on the chassis, previous owner dropped a 40k mile engine and trans into it. Salvage title appears to be from owner before that not keeping up with service on the drivetrain. Kid I bought it from tried to spruce it up but was lacking a bit in the fit and finish dept.
So far all I have done is remove the running boards. Once my work schedule permits there is a lot to tackle on this little beast.
Already ordered some Bilstein 5100's with OME springs all around.
Getting a plate front, tube rear and sliders from Addicted Offroad in a few weeks.
Replacing the column controls and cruise control stalk. High beam on busted and cruise control button beyond repair.
Tacoma whip.
Internal LED's
General service, plugs, wires, clean MAF, ISR mod, fluids etc.
What the future holds.
Backup cam to go with the sony double din already in car.
Headlight wiring, possibly HID with projector retro?
Big 3 wiring.
Extended breather.
Repaint hood and trunk, previous owner plasti dip not so hot.
Fix some dings and scratches.
Bed line lower 4 inches and interior.
Powdercoat or bed line bumpers.
Reupholster seats with waterproof fabric, possibly add seat "AC" while I am at it.
Reupholster door panels with waterproof fabric, backdate them a bit and ditch the pockets, just going to keep speakers and window/door latches and a simple armrest.
DRL mod.
Reupholster headliner, visors, sunroof panel.
Diff drop?
Make new brake flex lines keeping stock hard lines.
Fab up a battery box and go to a twin setup with tender and cutoff switch.
Fab up a tidy little coolant breather tank and relocate.
Replace washer fluid tank.
Roof rack.
Bumper mounted swingaway tire carrier? I do like the clean look without it though.
Might just respray the whole thing before I bedline line it.
Start replacing bushings and joints as needed/time allows.
Skid plate?
Lights.
Rubber floor and trunk mats.
Fire extinguisher, possibly add a system to the vehicle.
Buy some axles and rebuild them, switch to either Pankl/Krytox/Kluber grease and get some swoopy Pankl motorsport boots.
Gearing? Honestly not sure what I have in it now, ought to run the VIN eh
If I move the spare I might install a little auxiliary "oh shit" fuel tank.
Get some nice aux switches for accessories.
Dual USB outlets to replace the dual cig lighters.
Phablet mount.
Some good reliable GPS system and software.
Light bar.
Canopy off rack.
Chrome vinyl on roof to reflect a little heat.
Corner lights to LED as they burn out if ever.
Better speakers and tweeters and wiring.
Move the trailer brake control and subwoofer control to a better spot.
Flashlight mount somewhere.
Tie downs in trunk area.
Put together a nice little tool kit with some spare parts and popular items.
Hi lift jack really needed?
Compressor or pressure vessel with regulator and hose for tires.
If compressor than 110 outlet.
I am sure this could go on for ages but I just want it to be a tight low service truck that I can get off road with a couple times a month. Not planning on crawling or mudding or racing in the desert just want to know that my truck is likely more capable than I am and reliable. Plus it doesnt hurt having something that looks cool.
I will get some pictures of it up as soon as I swap my cards around, really.
Cheers all! Oh I am in LA by the beach.
