Just pick an 'even' interval and stick to it. Every 5k? Do an oil change at 205k miles, and then every 5k after that or whatever. (or 7.5k, whatever).

I just set an alarm for 3500 miles then never have to worry about it. I set an alarm for 30k miles for differentials/transfer case fluids/spark plugs too.

Thank you to the contributors to this thread. I bought a 1998 and the ScanGuage read it was operating normally around 207* on a cooler day. Sure enough the jiggle valve was at 12 o’clock and turning it to 6 solved the problem (I did throw in a new one while I was in there). I haven’t seen it go over 191* since.
