Being the libertarian I am, it's their money, their fuel and I respect their decision.

But real life experience has shown me that I can do better with an all season, high quality road tire in my 4 x 4's in situations most would never think of venturing to.

MikeinCincy, had the revo's in 14" of unplowed snow last year - and they were great. can't speak to how they will do for deeper snows - that was tops last year. Livin' in Cincy - i seriously doubt you will ever see more that 12" of snow.
 
You're exactly right. I think the last time we ever had that much snow was back in the mid 90s. Thanks a lot for your input. I am going to go with the Revos. Although some have complained about their snow traction, the large majority of people feel that it is well above par. I guess every product on the market gets a few negative reviews here and there but it seems that the Revos are definitely less frequent than its competitors.
 
Alright guys. Many of you have selected the "something else" option. What else would you recommend, given my needs (listed above) and in the stock 265/65/17 size? Thanks.

I personally wouldn't drive with Mud Terrains in snow, especially ice. The tread compound is hard and the pieces are way too big to grip unless you are in deep wet stuff with soft ground underneath. We took a friend's Blazer with 38" mud tires out in snow once and front-wheel drive cars did better than us. We even tried airing down the tires to 15psi, in 10 psi increments. I can't say for absolute certain, however, if the 440 big block didn't contribute to excessive wheelspin :D

you are correct.. my mtr's didnt do very well. the tire just packed in with snow between the knobs. The chains i put on didnt helped as much as they should of. the gaps in the tire actually fit the whole link in it.
 
I can tell you from personal experience that the REVOs are better then LTX M&S, BFG KO, Goodyear GSA in the rain, snow, and on dry conditions. The biggest difference was that regardless of mileage they performed like new. I don't remember anyone saying the REVOs performed poorly in snow. Even in the Tirerack ratings they are rated better in the snow then the ATRs. If snow is your only concern you may want to look at the Firestone Destination A/T. You can't get a better all-round tire then the REVOs! STILL. The ATRs have to prove they will perform with mileage before they can be number 1. Again, they (ATRs) are not rated as good as the REVOs in snow.

All mud tires SUCK in snow!

Koz, I really appreciate your right up. While doing all of my searching, I saw a lot of your posts which praised the Revos (along with many other users). You said that you didn't remember anyone saying anything bad about the Revos in the snow. Well, when I was doing my searching on this forum, I probably found like 4 or 5 people complain about them in the forum. On the other hand, there were many many more people who praised them in the snow. I called me local tire place (Tire Discounters) and they gave me a price of $203 + tax per tire. This includes allignment, lifetime rotation, lifetime balancing, mounting, and all of that jazz. What do you think of this price?

if you have a local Firestone shop, check their ads (usually in the sports section). i picked up my revos last year using their buy 3 get the fourth free...OTD price was $600 (no road hazzard, but free rotations for life)

That seems a little high. My local Firestone (Phoenix/Socttsdale) had them (including all bennies) for arounf $190 a tire. But Firestone also frequently has a rebate thing going, several times a year - so you may want to check them.
 
I would take TireRack's consumer reviews with a grain of salt. Koz knows this better than anyone...he used to use TireRack ranking as the premier example of REVO's superiority over other tires...but, nowadays, REVOs are ranked 3rd or 4th depending on the day you look at it.

Grain of salt...it may not be good for your health, but with TireRack consumer review, it is worth while to take it for the benefit of your wallet. :)

I have found Tire Rack reviews to be excellent sources on the real driving experience of people like me who don't know alot but know what they want or what they are looking for. I have found them much more informative than many sales reps. As an example, when I finally chose the Pirelli ATR Scorpion the America Tire guy was like......well of course if you want to spend that much money it's an excellent tire with great feedback. I think taking a little information from all sources is a good idea. At least for me, the tire rack reviews the number of miles reviewed and the location of the driver were invaluable.
