So how much of a difference are we talking on the roads? I don't care about a little extra gas or the price, just wanna make sure it's not gonna make my ride terrible...

Buy it and find out! It's a matter of taste. I felt that the BFG AT KO was as quiet as Nittos and REVOs when i had them on my G-wagen. They ride a bit rougher than REVOs because of it's stiff sidewall and heavy duty construction (more unsprung weight). I did not have any problem with them in rain. However, i only had them for about 25k miles, so i cannot comment on their performance at higher mileage.

BTW, unlike some on here, i like BFG AT Ko for the mild-moderate off-roader because i think that they are good tires, NOT because i have to justify my purchase. I am currently running Firestone Destination M/T...so, i have no hidden agenda.

I can only speak for myself but justifying a purchase by lying about it on Tire Rack simply does not ring "true". I sincerely doubt that people do that and as already stated here thousands of real world men and women contribute their honest opinions on the tires they select.

That said. should you wish be be a bit more direct "unlike some on here" why not respond directly to the posters. If not try to conform to the non flaming (in this case a group flame) condition of participation here. in either case your opinions I feel at least are relevant and informative.......let's try to keep it that way.......

There will always be fan-boys and bandwagon haters, i think thats what people are getting at.

It is almost a placebo affect if you will, when somebody buys 1 tire and doesn't have any experience with the others, they are most likely going to claim that theirs are absolutely awesome because they are satisfied with them, and they honestly don't know any better.

On the same hand many will promote theirs as the best to "pad" their own self esteem when it comes to their purchase and make themselves feel better about their purchase....

Others will bash a product their whole life based on 1 bad experience, or even their fathers bad experience.... I know I won't buy a chevy because of my dads horrible experience with them....

So if you think people are nothing but honest on the internet, i really wish i had your faith in humanity.... lol.

When did this turn personal?? Are you hurt that i think TireRack consumer reviews are unreliable?? You were hurt the last time (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30737&highlight=alaskaman+and+Tirerack)...sorry, but i still feel that way.

Bingo! I much prefer comparisons made by professionals, such as Consumer Reports, off-road magazines, C&D, etc.. With TireRack consumer reviews, you see a whole vast of opinions from trolls (bash a product) and fanatics (praise it blindly). This is why TireRack is unreliable. I bought Goodyear Assurance Comfortred for my Corolla based on the TireRack's reviews...boy, was that a freaking mistake! TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT.

As for someone who has went thru most of the AT and highway SUV tires, I believe that all of them are very similar when you go with a big brand. It all comes down to personal preference (e.g. looks) and whether you need snow performance or not (snowflake symbol).

As a side note, from what i hear/read, according to independent testing, the Michelin LTX AT-2 outperformed REVOs and Goodyear SilentArmor in all areas. So, i would consider AT-2 if it comes in your size.

I know what you mean. I would like to have a set of Michelin's, but they are so darn expensive. I guess keeping my stock size (265/65/17) is definitely limiting my choices here. A lot of people are recommending that I get the BFG KOs, but they don't come in the size I want them in.

This definitely applies to me. Being in college and working full time year-round, I would find it hard to go off-roading. However, I do plan to do so occasionally possibly this summer. So, I guess I can narrow my choices down to an A/T tier that doesn't have too aggressive of a tread design and is relatively smooth on paved roads.

I would NOT get BFG AT KO given what you wrote. REVOs, Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor, Michelin At-2 are all good choices...and should serve you very well. Yokohama Geolander HT-S is also a good choice and it's much cheaper...so, you may want to look into that one.

Ditto, those tires look great! I wonder though if there would be any rubbing issues if I went with the 265/70/17 size. Also, I guess I would have to get a set of 5 since my spare is 265/65/17.

Yea, those tires look pretty beefy. If I off-roaded more, I would definitely consider them. But for now, I might just have to put them on the old back-burner. Man oh man do they look good though.

What do you think about those Destination A/Ts? I came across that tire when I was on Tire Rack. They seem to get good ratings, albeit from Tire Rack customers (which I have learned that I should take with a grain of salt). How do they handle in the rain? snow? and off-road? From what people on here have said, BFG at that size above (265/70/17) will rub on extreme steering or something like that.

I never had Destination A/Ts...therefore, i cannot comment. However, Firestone is making a lot of effort to erase it's dark history (e.g. Explorer incident)...so, i assume that they are making quality products. This is why i got the Destination M/Ts...so far, i am happy with them. But, there is not enough history with the Destination tires for anyone to come to a conclusion about it's durability/reliability yet.

It is personal when you attempt to generalize about "others" and in so doing attempt to sway opinions in your own direction. In my opinion that is manipulative. The fact that you post what you assume others feel is hardly playing boy's sports in my viewpoint. The fact that you weave together my recent purchase and the input from many others as somehow relating to your thread is mystifying to me. In any case, this is a good forum.......and I note that you are a mod of the forum.That fact combined with the way you conduct yourself this way (labeling other's viewpoints as without merit and less than your own) despite what you say about every one has a right to an opinion is called dirty pool in my book. At least attempt to be a touch more genuine. Since you are a Mod you might want to try acting like one.

I vote for the Nitto TG or Michelin Cross Terrain.

I switched to Nitto TGs about 20K miles ago on my T4R and have been very impressed. They are a great dual purpose tire. Their on-road manners are excellent, yet they still get the job done off-road. I'm an avid skier and have put many snow miles on them up to Mt. Bachelor and over Santiam Pass and they continue to impress. A tire is a personal choice, but the Nitto TG should definitely be considered.

I run the Cross Terrains on the MDX and they are a great on road tire. They handle rain and snow VERY well and are extremely quiet, however I would not run this tire off-road.
