Bridgestone Revos done did me right...
Just wanted to say thanks to those who posted useful comments about the tires out there! I just bought a set of the Bridgestone REVOs, and they handle great even through the icy roads up in Oregon over the last few days!

Just bought a 99 4Runner SR5 so I could get back into my favorite vehicle of all time. Only problem was finding one that I really liked, and it turned up in San Diego, so I headed down and bought it.
After many, many complicated turns of events, I ended up driving it from Las Vegas back home to Seattle this week. Before I left, I knew it needed new shoes, since the old all season tires wouldn't carry me through snow or even through dirt, I don't think...
So, with some pressure to get on the road quickly, I picked up the Bridgestone REVOs in stock size since they were available in Las Vegas that day. I wanted to go with a bigger tire, but I didn't have enough time to research and ensure that it'd work, sadly... I wish I had gone with the 265/75R16 now, but c'est la vie...
Anyway, got the REVOs on and hit the road. They had plenty of clear highway to break in, and by the time I hit the icy mess up around Portland, they were MONSTERS! I can't believe how bad they let the roads get in that area, but hopefully they fixed it quickly, cause man it was horrible... Little lines of 2wd cars all chained up following a big semi trying to stay in the grooves...
But those REVOs handled great even in the worst ice I came across. Changing lanes out there required jumping an 8x6 inch ice dam, and they grabbed on every time I asked them to. I was able to maneuver safely even when some crazy semi driver decided he was coming into my lane, ready or not!
So, no scientific method here, and there may be a better tire out there, but so far the REVOs were a fine choice, and I haven't regretted the tire, just the size... Maybe I'll try to sell these and get the bigger size after the holidays are done...
