Not another rust question!!

Sorry guys but I've got 1 question about rust issues ....no its not how to fix or prevent or what have you ...the picture here I am just curious to hear from all you runner owners should I fix or am I wasting my time?. By fix I mean I found a guy willing to patch in a new piece of metal there ....should I go for it or not? Everywhere else it is just surface rust that I am taking care of since I only have 140k on the truck...I didn't see this hole untill after I bought the truck...I had to remove skid plates to even find it and was soo pissed I found it ...the truck in every way but this is in very very good shape

If the truck is in good shape get your welder to look and make sure there is no other rust. Then as he said get a thicker piece of sheet metal and weld it.

I had the same problem but on both sides and decided to weld as mine only had 125k miles.

That's in the front? That's a new place. Check the area in front of the lower control arms. It may look like surface rust but it's probably more. Go around especially on the inside of the frame rails and poke around. I had an area on my frame welded. Also had to replace the rear axle housing. RUST SUCKS!!
 
Yes right under the drivers seat almost exactly ...I'll know a whole lot more once I get our there this weekend and wire wheeling and scraping till next summer lol.....this is my first rodeo with this whole frame rust ....had a 90 celica before and not a spec of rust anywhere ( could also have to do with the original owner being my brother who gets any smudge or bird crap on his cars washes the entire thing again)

I guess I need to get some pictures of the whole truck and put them up some where on my page or something so everyone can see why I want to fix this
 
Welcome to the club my friend. I'm gonna pay a body shop guy $40/hr, a couple hours a week to take care of all the rust that's there and protect what hasn't been infected. Sucks...

Fix it. Just make sure you're 100% certain that's all the rust there is. Specially since that section of rust is so far forward. I had rust on the rear LCA mount at the frame, and forward to the rear most cross member. I though everything was just surface rust until I start chiseling away at it with a brick hammer. It's better to cut away some good metal just to make sure the rusted area is completely removed. If you have or know someone with a welder this is an easy job.

Holy crap now I'm not so pissed after seeing that and your fixing it ....I'm going out this weekend to a welder I found to have him look it over and providing the weather is nice I'm gonna be hitting it hard wire brushing ......what's the best way about removing parts to get the entire frame? Or is there not a best way ?and where do I go to upload more pictures of my entire runner so everyone can check it out?
 
The welder should have some experience in determining the best course of action. As the other posters suggested, look over everything carefully. Might as well get the welder to work on everything one time. Look at the rocker panels as well as around the body mounts.

The problem with gen three that everyone here says is the running. Boards and the fender flares allow for water to pool and eventually rust out the frame. It's a shame. I had to replace my rockers and do two steel slabs to reinforce the frame.

Also, make sure you look at your lower ball joints as well. Everyone on here says the lower ball joints should be replaced.

Lastly, depending on the maintenance record look at the radiator water pump and timing belt.

There is a thread on here on everything you should do to get the truck running properly so it will last.
 
Truck runs fantastic ....only thing I've noticed now that I've had it awhile is the ruts on the highways tend to steer the truck for me ..curious if anyone else notices this...planning on doing a lot of replacing of various items so I know 100% sure they are new and in working order ....today I pull throttle body off and clean that seeing that there is still the OEM hose clamp thing there...I have to cut it off and replace its seized ...have already done diff fluid change ... gonna seafoam with a fresh oil change afterward..one thing that I'm not sure if its been done is timing ...is there a way to check ? And if it breaks dies it screw my engine?
