not good!!

So my wife calls and says "hey you got an oil leak under the 4runner". I ask well how big is it? She says pretty big. I know my wife and I am thinking shes just being paranoid because oil is on the drive way..

I ask her how big and she goes really big. I say "about 10"x10" she says bigger..

To my surprise when i get home this is what i find.

Interesting that it's dropping under the right front, there. Could you be lucky enough to just have a loose oil filter?

I tried all the obvious stuff.. Around the oil filter looked to be the cleanest part. and it was on pretty good..

Judging by the location of it (unless you moved the 4runner) I would almost be inclined to think it's coming from the tranny. Did you take a good look around the transmission? It could also be a rear main or the rear of the valve cover that is dripping down the transmission.

Hose off the engine and start it up and watch

Thats what I was going to say.

Check the engine oil, see if its low. Also smell what is dripping, gear oil smells different than engine oil..

dip stick bone dry. I would need to ad oil to engine before cranking it.

its been confirmed.. Engine needs to come out. A mechanic friend stopped by and after we pressure washed the under side he told me that just about anywhere it can leak oil that it is. He said the best thing is to pull it out and start replacing stuff...

I may just shoot for a 3.4 swap.. Can anyone recommend a place in NC or close by NC?
