Not quite a milkshake BUT....

I would suggest replacing the thermostat & gasket too.

In the hills in your area the trans temps will hit low to mid 200s if you keep the radiator from cooling your trans, Ask me how I know. :cowboy:

Ha. you're right. Ya can't get away with stock rotors around here either. How do you know BTW?
I ordered a super cooler radiator for the trans....I'm not familiar with the operating temps of the Transmission. Is that hot?

When I got our 97 limited I drained the trans and found white streaks in the drain pan. So I bypassed the rad cooler and bought a TrueCool 4589 and bypassed the rad. For the next week I'd drain and refill the trans with Walmart trans fluid. Never seen white streaks again. I did install a Magnifine trans cooler line filter while I was installing the external cooler. I still dump the trans oil on occasion and put in fresh walley world stuff. It doesn't hurt.

OK, I've got the old and very much shot Rad and bracket out after removing my big-ole rusty stinger bumper, fan shroud and grill. NOW I'm dealing with the reason you should never let anyone else work on your truck - the nuts on my thermostat are ALL rounded and a 12mm socket is worthless. There's no room for a hammer to pound an 11mm socket on there and rip it out and no way to drill it out either since these are nuts and the reverse of the usual. I hit em with some penetrator and I suppose I'll try to figure out some solution when the sun comes up. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to take the fan off to get in there with some leverage. I thought of hitting it with a torch but I'll probably have to go buy some kinda tool to grip it. Any suggestions?

Are you using 6 sided 12 mm box socket? if not, try it.
Removing the radiator and fan to gain access is the best choice for you at this moment without making matters worst.
The bolts should be about 14 ft-lb torque so it should come off easily.

Something like this might help.
5-pc BOLT-GRIP? Expansion Set - Tools - IRWIN TOOLS

Or, you could get 2 thin nuts and jam them on the stud.
Put a wrench on the inside one and use that method to remove the stud.

When I change a thermostat usually 2 or all 3 of the studs turn out anyway.

infamousRNR and I have a video...

mtbtim - hey man, thank you for taking the time and making the effort to do these vids.

my chica and i have been avoiding the radiator maintenance / ATF flush & filter "mod" for some time now. the two vids you posted here demystify the whole sequence and give us a clear and quick path toward continued 3rd gen T4R bliss. our parts and supplies should show up soon, and we'll give our fancy olde rig a little love soon thereafter... hopefully beating the PMS to the punch.

:thanks:

watch that..... buy what you need and do it.

trust me

Jesus H Christ.......Ok so I finished the flush, installed the two new radiators in series since it seemed to make the most sense ....went to put fluids in turned the key and ........**** ME!!!! Bad starter. REALLY? 5 hours later....the new starter is in (thru the wheel well) AND I discovered a pin hole leak in the tranny line that was spewing tranny fluid 2 feet away from where the actual leak was.....causing MUCH consternation. In fact I'm pretty sure it was intentional deception on the part of my tranny for personal reasons....bastard :sniper:. My fluid is crystal clear, the tranny is shifting like it's my ***** and so I claim victory!!!!!
