This is probably going to be more of a maintenance thread than a build thread.

Here is a picture of my latest obsession.

It's a '98 and it's about to hit 237k. Being this old with this many miles, combined with being a Michigan, it has some rust, and a few other issues.

The first thing i had to figure out was the aftermarket stereo head unit that wouldn't work. This turned out to be a blown fuse on the back of the head unit.

Now that I have tunes, it's time to work on the bouncey suspension. I picked up a pair of these KYBs for the rear.

When I got under the truck to install these I realized the old shocks had broken off where they mount to the frame. That would explain a lot of the bounce.

Next up...front struts and UBJs and LBJs.

So this weekend I managed to change both front struts and one LBJ. I wasn't able to get the castle nut off the OTR on the passenger side. So I picked up a new OTR and I will use my friend the sawzall to get rid of the old one.

Here is a picture of the old parts.

That LBJ was shot! I had to sawzall through the struts to get them out. I could get the three mount bolts loose, but not the actual strut bolt. I used the jack under the control arm trick to decompress and compress the springs.

Good morning! I'm getting ready to do the front brakes on this old beast. I've been reading about doing the 231mm Tacoma upgrade, but it looks like the caliper won't fit in my stock wheels. I don't have the budget to change my wheels, so is there any mod that can be done to make those calipers fit my stock wheels? Or, am I better off just to stay with a stock brake setup?

You're correct in the TUNDRA 231mm calipers won't fit under the split 3's that you have. Hopefully someone can chime in, will the 199mm fit!? I'd check that out. It'd still be an upgrade and worthwhile. I'm just not sure on that one.

Wheel spacers will solve your problem. 231mm is extremely worthwhile upgrade.

Stock 5 stars can be found cheap too and they clear the 231 calipers. I sold my stock ones with pretty good tires on them for $280 I think. You can probably get just the wheels for $200 or less and then sell your stock ones.
