Not sure what to do!

Hey,

I have a 95 automatic 3.0 and it has just had one of the heads replaced and the engine has been rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. It has had a new waterpump and a new radiator put in it about 5,000 miles ago. My problem is that it seems to be getting hotter then I think that it should. The temp gauge reads below the middle. When I start it though the belts squeaks, and when I take off the radiator cap it stops. I am going to change out the thermostat tonight. I am just wanting to know if anyone knows what this problem of mine could be. I just replaced the radiator cap today as well just to make sure that that was not it, but it still continues to squeak and get hot.:sniper:

I'm just guessing here, but hotter than normal + squeaky belt = bad water pump pulley, to me.

Thats a bummer, the waterpumps on these are driven by the timing belt. Quite a bit of work to replace them.

Can you identify where the squeek is coming from? maybe something wrong with the belt tensioner making it slip.

You might check the roller in the center. Ours was squeaking, or bearing was making noise which facilitated a timing belt/w-pump job. Our 1990 runs about at the middle of the temp, or center of the temp gauge, that is even with a new factory rad installed.

Well I sprayed the belts to see which one would stop squeaking and the one with the alternator made it stop squeaking with a little WD40. But when it dried it went back to squeaking. What do you figure that would signify? Hopefully this thermostat gets rid of the pressure tonight and I can just forget about this whole venture. I am also going to rig my external fan to a relay switch into the cab for a cooler radiator all the time hopefully.

Thanks alot for all of the advice guys. It is going to hopefully narrow this search down to something other then changing my water pump again because that was a pain.

How old are the drive belts? Maybe its too tight/loose? The alt belt is tricky doing it alone, as ypu have to pry the alt and tighten the bolt at the same time. Ive done it myself with a pry bar and ratchet, and a whole lotta f bombs

The drive belt looks a little worn but the other one is good. I hope that your right about the belt being loose or just overly worn. I am going to venture into it tonight and make sure. I felt them earlier and they felt tight but maybe there is a little slack still. thanks for the advice.
