Not the typical CAI question

My question has nothing to do with whether or not a CAI increases mileage and power. Frankly, in those regards I don’t think it would have a very noticeable effect.
For those of you who have one under the hood, I’d like your opinion on this;
Would having the air come in from under the hood opposed to the inner fenderwell be beneficial during a three foot or less water crossing? Less likely water would make its way in?

You're much more likely to have an issue with an aftermarket open filter type intake rather than with the OEM intake when it comes to water. Something like the K&N intake with no filter protection will suck up water long before the OEM intake will.

I had my fender liners out for a couple weeks and was getting more dirt/mud into the fender air hole and K&N.
Screwed a piece of sheet metal over the fender intake hole.
After you are moving 10-15 mph its seems to be getting air just 5-10 degrees warmer than outside, the same as with the hole open.
Granted this is not a true sealed CAI. Open at the front.

Not sure it would matter.
If you get in deep enough just keep that bow wave going.

Thanks! We're looking for options to the wheelwell opening not only to cut down on water but dust too. Merri is rejecting the idea of a snorkel.
