O/D Button

Hello! I'm new to the forum but not to the 4Runner. I've owned a 98, 2000, and currently back to a 2002. My question for fellow owners is: for in town driving, does anyone press the O/D button so that O/D is off? I'm just wondering if this will affect my gas mileage any since I am almost all in town.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

On a 2002 the O/D is turned on by default every time you turn on your car. I can only assume that's to make you use it and therefor it must be best for you/car.

I tried to test my gas mileage once with the O/D off but then I kept forgetting to turn it off every time I started the car... and never got clear results.

It would affect you mileage. I think it would be best to leave the overdrive on. You can go into overdrive as low as 40 mph in a effort to save gas. If your car hunts for a gear, then turn it off or if you tow turn it off as the overdrive tends to produce more heat. For everyday driving in town I leave it on.
