The sensor before the CAT is the Air/Fuel Sensor and plays a vital role in your trucks timing. Unfortunately if there is something wrong with it, it isn't cheap to relace. I had to get a new one when I did my headers and the AFR sensor was crossthreaded in from the factory and so galled up I couldn't reuse it.

The guy at the Toyota parts counter took pity on me and asked why I needed a new one for a truck at the time only a year old. I told him I was putting long tube headers on the truck. He responded that sounds real nice, but that probably cost a little as it is. I said "yes", and he said he was cutting me a break and sold it to me for around $200-250 (can't exactly recall, but was like this).

Unfortunately you're gonna have to bite the bullet on this one.
