O2 sensor missing? And is this hose is capped??

I've been going over my truck since I bought it a month ago and I keep asking my self if I'm missing a knock or O2 sensor on the driver side exhaust manifold. Is it supposed to be caped like this? Also, directly across from manifold, I have a hose with a cap on it, that normal too? I followed the hose as far as I could and it appears to disappear between the oil pan and front diff...can't see past that. Any advice is apreciated. Thank you in advance.

That's your front differential breather.

There is no O2 sensor on the manifold itself. There is one right before the cat, and right after.

** Just saw that you said "is it supposed to be capped like this?" Your manifold has a cap on it...? Or are you talking about the differential breather?

Lol, thanks wilson013. Guess I should've come to that conclusion being that it stops at the diff.

On OP I was referring to the manifold also being caped, can't load 2 pics at on e on my phone. You repo red too quick for my phone to upload second pic.

That cap on the manifold is for an EGR valve, which you don't have.

I don't have because they didn't come with one that year ( I hope) or because they took it out and caped bothe ends (manifold and intake) because they were cheap/to pass smog. I am really wishing for the first option, didn't come with one that year...

That's a question that I cannot answer 100%.

I believe only the Cali-spec 4Runners had them, but I see you're in California. Perhaps yours is from out of state?

I wouldn't sweat it, really. Mine doesn't have one either =)

Thanks for your response. It has Cal plates and has been in Bay Area all it's life. I'm pretty sure this is the EGR valve, and one of the reasons why I am puzzled with the manifold cap. My experience, and common sense, says that the evoporated gas( exhaust) recirculation should start at exhaust manifold.

Now that I know what I'm looking for, thanks to wilson013, I did a little searching on and found out that 96+ 3.4l don't have EGR.
