O2 Sensor

Just a quick question: My 1997 4Runner is running rough, mostly when accelerating. I have only had the car about 3 weeks, so I do not know when the last time the plugs and such were changed. I do know the guy I bought it from in usually very good with keeping up with the maintenance on his cars. So the 4Runner is throwing codes P0130 and P0133 (I think that was right) which is the O2 sensor but the guy at the parts store says that the sensor will not make the car run rough. That I need to do some general maintenance on it before I do the sensor, like spark plugs, wires and such. I agree that I probably need to do that or at least check them to see what kind of shape they are in, but I have also read on your forum that the sensor can make the car run rough exactly as it is doing. I just need your opinion as to what I should do first? Thanks

Save your pennies and change out the plugs, wires, and 02 sensor(s) at the same time. NGK wires and double electrode plugs and Denso O2 sensors.

Parts store employees. Where to begin. They easily can put the "M" in moronic more often than not.

Do some general maintenance first. How does it idle? RPM's? My idle is around 750 when warm. If it's lower I'd search IAC valve and give that a clean. I'd also remove and clean the MAF sensor. All easy stuff, cheap to do and will be a good introduction to your new 4Runner.
