o2 sensor

Bad air/fuel ratios......could in turn cause

- CEL
- Crappy fuel economy
- Stinky exhaust
- Black smoke from exhaust
- Loss of power
- Fouled plugs
- Weird idle

Maybe somethings I'm forgeting also, but any one or combination could mean a bad O2 sensor.

You will see the check engine light come on for no apparent reason and VSC/TRAC will be disabled (and lights will come on). Driving you will notice no loss of power, no changes except the loss of VSC/TRAC. 4th gen's have 4 O2 sensors, so the loss of one or two will not significantly impact fuel consumption or exhaust. 3rd gens and earlier have only 1 O2 sensor, so if this is a 3rd gen, you will see any of the symptoms listed by North.

I had the O2 sensor go out on my 3rd gen (1997) about a month ago. The biggest symptom was my check engine light coming on. I did not see any of the other symptoms listed above. So keep your eyes on the indicator lights & bring the truck to someone you trust to check it out.

light does not come on

i have a heisation problem thats intermint after full tune up, the only thing i dine not do is an injector service and change timing because the trk. runs to good, just that weird flat spot

Oh I was definetly thinking of an earlier generation, as bobby has a 95 as per the steering bar recall thread. True that on a 4rth gen you wouldn't notice jack except a CEL.

Poor gas mileage could definetly be an oxygen sensor tho....what's your economy like?

bad gas mileage

very bad mileage
question i am going to dealer on tuesday for a recall center link, think its a good idea to take the plunge and let them find out whats wrong i think it 100.00 for checking it out.if so if its o2 senor dealer quoted me 130.00 for part how much could it cost to put in 100.00 labor 100.00 troubleshooting 150.00 part 350.00 no more guessing...i am sick of the running weird .1995 3.0 v-6 with 9-10 mpg but this truck is clean in and out 125k on it and i really like it. almost as much as my new bmw that an o6 . i like the way it feels sitting high and tough, my other trk is a 95 madza b3000 supercab that runs great with 132k on it...i really like this trk i would be happy with 15mpg...

it shouldnt cost that much to replace the sensor. usually the dealer will forgo the diagnosis cost if you get the work done there. the cost for replacing the sensor should be around $150. the sensor is about $100 and the labor was only .3 hrs which is about $35. add some tax and you get about a $150 fix. but that was the cost for a 4th gen runner, price for 3rd gen might be different.
