OBD Fusion/Transmission Temperature

This may be known to most of you, but I just spent a few days searching for an easy way to read trans temps. I tow a lot, and with summer coming, I was stressing about towing in higher temperatures. All of my other vehicles I've had, I plumbed/wired in a gauge but I don't have the time right now to do that.


OBD Fusion with the Toyota Enhanced Diagnostics will recognize both A/T Temp 1 and A/T Temp 2. This is on my 2008 V8 4x4 Limited.

I connect with a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE OBD2 Bluetooth Scanner and have the OBD Fusion app on an iPhone 7.

After all the reading I did, I had a couple pages of formulas ready to go to find the correct one to configure the pid. Thankfully, it was literally plug and play.

In the picture, my truck had been sitting for a bit after I got home from work, hence the temps below 130

I have the same setup and it works well. IIRC, the only time mine approached 200 was out on a trail.

Edit: Found that post. I didn’t have the advanced diagnostics yet.

I agree, this is really a very convenient setup. But I don't use an iPhone, but an old iPad that is attached to the car. This is much more convenient, you can see a lot more information. In addition to this application, I use another very useful application from the company https://thinkdiag.co.uk. This is an application that allows you to pair a diagnostic tool together with my iPad via Bluetooth. In fact, it is very convenient. After this device, I absolutely do not want to switch to the previous, wired generation. In addition, this device perfectly performs all the actions that are necessary from it. I think this is one of my best purchases of late!

does the OBD fusion app work for android phones? i have the torque pro app & with an added code for the trans senor it will read 1 trans temp sensor but not both. & does it have an oil temp or psi ability? might try the fusion app if it works with android.

Not to crap on OBDfusion but I have that app and its not user friendly and requires the purchase of add-ons to get what you need. I was disappointed. I prefer EngineLink using a LeLink BT device. Engine link allows you to enter custom PIDs and works really well. The app was $5 and lelink was $35

thanks for the info. i have an android bluetooth OBD adapter already & use torque pro. i like the torque app & it has a lot of sensor options, but i would like an oil psi or temp gauge & the 2nd trans temp would be nice too.

just curious if the obd fusion had those options or if anyone knows of a OBD app that does.

How did you get the temps to display on your dashboard?

the temps display is on his phone via the app, not the dashboard of the 4runner.

Yes...i know...but fusion calls it the dashboard on the phone...i have it figured out anyhow...

Yes, the app states it will work with Android.

There is no engine oil temp or psi ability because the ecm does not monitor those.

thanks for the reply & info. i will check out the fusion app. too bad toyota doesnt monitor oil psi, you'd think that would be important for a gauge.

I've often thought about replacing the switch with a gauge. I've half-heartedly looked around the web for a gauge pod that would work on the A pillar. It's been hard to find something that works with the grab handle right there.

Oil pressure spec at idle is minimum 4.2 psi. At 3000 rpm it's 43-85 psi.

I have the same setup as OP. For my 2006 4.7L, the "Enhanced Diagnostics" option is an in-app purchase @ $9.99:

"Enhanced Diagnostics allows you to read and clear trouble codes from proprietary modules such as ABS, Airbag, Transmission, Body Control, and many others. You also get access to hundreds of parameters and sensors that are not available over standard OBD2. Please note that availability for additional parameters and modules depends on your vehicle and adaptor."

Working on revising my current dashboard. Interested to know what others have on theirs. For example, someone mentioned oil pressure but I can’t find where to get that value.

Agree with a previous post that OBD Fusion isn’t particularly user-friendly but you can create templates for gauges and that helps a lot when adding new PIDs.
