OBX Pedals Question

For those of you who installed the OBX racing pedals -- did you gain any additional clearance between the accelerator and brake? How much?

Thinking about getting a set but can't seem to find out if it will give extra room so I don't catch the inside of my right foot on the edge of the brake pedal when moving from the gas to the brake.

It did give a little more clearance. I can't tell you exactly how much but I know that I don't hit the brake when I reach for the accel any more.
 
i had the same problem back in jan-04 when i first bought mine. i have a thread on this issue somewhere. but yes, the main reason i got the obx pedals was the clearance issue with the oem pads and snagging the brake pedal as i was lifting off the gas. the obx was a huge improvement in this area. if your having this same problem the obx will solve it. it did for me.

I just ordered them from toyotaparts4u.com for $32.40...i have the same problem with my foot hitting the brake sometimes, gets annoying
 
once you figured out how to get the oem off, just reverse the process pretty much. being it was pretty cold out, i just had the dealer install them since i didnt have a garage to install them in. it still took the tech about and hour to do the whole process, took longer to get them off than getting the obx on. it was like in the -10F to -20F out when i got my runner, so it was worth the cost of having the dealer install them.

Very interesting. I also have the problem with catching the tip of the pedal sometimes, but usually it happens to me when I'm going from the brake to the gas. I didn't know these would add clearance. Is there only one style? I like the idea of having more clearance but I'm not a huge fan of the way they look... Are there any others that would do the same thing? Most of em I see are just the crappy covers...
 
there is only 1 style. and the silver part looks like cast iron or something like that. black circles are rubber pads to better grip your shoe. most 3rd party ones are either slip on or not made as good imo. the obx are replacements hence the pita to remove oem and install the obx. the obx has some weight to them so they will last a long time i think.

Thanks....are the rubber knobs enough to prevent slipping? Looking at the pics made me wonder if a wet shoe would slide off.
 
OBX pedals

It took me about 45 minutes to install these pedals. The OEM brake pedal just pulled off, took about 5 seconds. The OBX pedal fits over the OEM accelerator.

I used two small flat head screwdrivers to help pull the rubber lip of each OBX pedal over the OEM. There is not much space to work and getting a good handle on the accelerator was a pita. Maybe a dime wedged in between would have worked better.

I don't see these OBX pedals ever coming off. They were a much tighter fit than the OEM pedals.

Overall, I like them. Very high quality.
 
Mine came with the OBX pedals. I was thinking about going back to the factory pedals because I constantly catch my foot on the right side of the brake pedal when going from the brake to the gas. It sounds like the problem could be worse though with the factory pedals if there is less clearance between the two pedals.

I've never had a problem with slippage as one person asked. They are beginning to get scuffed up though as most metallic stuff does when you step on it all the time so be prepared to clean them occasionally if you want them to stay nice looking.
 
Since we have another thread running about the extra clearance you gain between the pedals, any way to you measure and see how much it really is?

After spending a work week with the new pedals, I can say that they deliver as promised. I can feel the added HP when I leave the stoplight.

I'd say the pedals add 1/8 of an inch in thickness. The pedals overall seem more sturdy with these OBX as opposed to OEM.

It was a worthwhile mod, just a PITA to install. I found that it would have been easier had I left the pedals and rig in the sun before I started(to soften the rubber). The rubber on the pedals is of the same quality as a scuba diving mask, very thick and sturdy. ;):
