My family is booked in Sanderling (Duck area) for the last week of June. I cannot wait to fish! This will be our seventh consecutive trip.

I will be going to Avon sometime in june and later in the fall. Went there last year june 23. I love it there. Im into surfing and thats a great spot. That is some deep sand though, almost got stuck but pulled through. Anything is vulnerable there. saw a older F150 with a lift and mud tires get dragged off by a H1 hummer. then earlier that day at an entrance, a newer F150 got stuck and wouldn't shift into 4WD. Those fords

I usually go to Hatteras or Ocrakoke(sp?). This is my first trip to Corolla. I am staying in a 4 wheel drive access only house so I am lloking forward to some beach driving.
Anyone know how far up the Va line is up the beach? How is the sand up around Carolla?
I will either be taking my 4-runner SE or my FJC.

Where you enter the beach, the sand is packed for ~1/4mi. Cars usually don't have a problem dealing w/ it. After that, it gets softer and softer the further north you go. In the summer time, there is usally a lot of people out there, so there are a bunch of 'lines' you can take up the beach. Watch out for idiots in their soccer mom SUVs flying around trying not to get stuck.

I live on Hatteras, and striper fish corolla alot during the winter.
Currituck sheriff's deputies have radar in their beach vehicles and you will be given tickets just the same as on the highway. Here on Hatteras same thing with NPS rangers, but an added one is they will write you on hwy 12 away from the villages just like a trooper can do. Their pet peeves in the summer are speeding and reckless driving on the beach, and if given one by a ranger its a federal ticket and you have to go all the way to Elizabeth city to court, use what you were given between the ears and drive safely and you will not have a problem, go out on the beach, speed and drive reckless and I see you doing it, have both NPS ranger and CCSD on speed dial and will turn you in in a heart beat, driving the beach is a privilege that many
weekenders and tourists take way too lightly, and besides it just gives the anti beach driving people more grease for their fires.

Just got back from the outer banks. What an awesome time my 4runner had! It was a beast in the sand. Once you lock that differential, it becomes a tank. I took it under the organ inlet bridge which was really crowded. I also took it for a 6 mile drive between Avon and Salvo. My favorite though was driving on Ocrakoke. My wife and I drove on the beaches there and saw very few others out there. The beaches are very shallow there, and the water is warmer than on Pea Island. That was a lot of fun! My 4runner is now bored when it is on the pavement!
