October 2015 Meet and Trail Run

ya its pretty hard to get lost up there, if I remember correctly almost all the trails are attached to the same dirt road 3N16 or something

Exactly, I'm thinking a Clark's Grade run, with a difficult split off...maybe John Bull afterward? That will allow the greatest participation. Who wouldn't want to go to Big Bear? I hear there's gold in them thar hills.

I ran Skyline last weekend and it wasn't bad, but it's a quick run at only 13ish miles. I was talking to Dave [MENTION=23862]masson74[/MENTION] about it during lunch and he said Clark's summit is pretty easy even though the guide books rate it at moderate. Clark's summit is an offshoot of Skyline, and I'll need to look at the book, but I think there's at least one "hard" offshoot as well.

And if noone steps foreward I think we can manage to not get lost, maybe :nerd:

Fosho. I've got the Guide to So Cal backroads, so if nothing else I'm sure we can find something.

I think [MENTION=84642]Quatre Coureur[/MENTION] is pretty familiar with a couple of the harder runs, but I think those are no bullshit runs from what I've read and see on reports. skids, sliders, and locker/atrac needed.

I'll be running something next Saturday, not sure what yet but I'm open to ideas. Maybe Cleghorn, but that's not big bear.

Starts off the 15 near Cajon Pass and ends around Silverwood Lake off the 173/138 according to the book. Haven't been up there, but looks like there's bypasses for the harder parts.

My only concern for a November run is snow if this supposed El Nino hits. I understand the FS starts closing roads when the snow starts.

I would meet up at the Oaks Restaurant in Angelus Oaks or the ranger station in Yucaipa near Hwy 38 and Bryant St. then Clarks Grade taking the shortcut down to the Santa Ana River just past the Oaks Restaurant. Then up Clarks down into Big Bear for lunch. After Lunch I think Gold Mountain Run is a fun one. Pretty challenging. Sliders and skids recommended but their are different by passes you can take from expert to easy.

Once the mountain closes I'll be working through the Anza Borrego pages of this book.

I know that area pretty good along with Meccatopia area, box canyon,painted hills, jeep truck trail, bradshaw trail, and etc. there's tons out here in the desert area. Could also do Joshua Tree and go up the back way through Berdoo Canyon and theres a bunch of side trails that go to old mines and what not.
