For those that geek out like I do... The Astro conditions will be perfect w a new moon and Gore rating an excellent on the darkness scale. Pray for (decently) cloudless skies and our glass will be able to capture of the 2016 Milky Way opportunity.

I'm laughing my ass off about all this Stifler and hookers talk. As soon as [MENTION=139682]Simpleman74[/MENTION] mentioned his banned buddy, I immediately said "STIFLER!" I haven't been very involved on this forum over the years, but I've been around long enough to see him come and go more than once. Shortly before his last exit, I hit him up for some new rear hatch struts that he was nice enough to give me for FREE.

I'd like to learn how to capture celestial pictures without it being so grainy! Tripod is coming along now too.
As long as the telescope comes in a protective case I would bring it. The glass tends to be more fragile or susceptible to jarring. If you take it with you while 4x4 on the trails wrap it in your sleeping bag or something.
On another note...totally camping noob question but do we need to worry about bears? I have been reading up about not sleeping in the same clothes that one wears while cooking, and placing the food and the clothing used for cooking and other scented things like deodorant at least 100 yards away hanging 10' off the ground and 4' away from a branch etc etc.
Recently made the mistake of watching the movie "BackCountry" :barf:

We have seen bears 2 of the 4 years but always on Sunday night at the dumpster which is pretty far from camp (if you look at the map on the first post we are camp 2 and the dumpster is between camps 5 and 7).
One year it was momma and 3 cubs!
Our campground is pretty packed and noisy so the bears stay away.

I got her something that "extends" for Christmas....she seemed to like that quite a bit...and she loves using the hell of it...
lol....I'd a done been ate bout 30 years ago if that was the case. I think black bears here on the East coast are primarily chickens...unless you piss with their cubs
