Man, if I wasn't going to the Cove the weekend before I'd DEFINITELY come!
The Cove is my "go to" campground.
PS - If you plan on hitting the range, I recommend doing it Thursday before the weekenders arrive. It can get packed and unsettling at times to say the least (I also take a full medic bag).

In all the years we've gone to the Cove (2-3 times a year) the only bear we've ever seen was about 50-75 yards away and ran when I realized it was coming towards people.
With that said...we do bring bear spray

And I made a ridgeline holster for my hammock (not that it would actually do anything to a bear LOL)
If you're really nervous, a fishing line with some xmas bells tied every 8 feet and 36" above the ground out further away from your camp is an early warning.
We've had a fox, a raccoon and a skunk walk through our camps.
It shouldn't be a problem though. Camps are usually too noisy for bears.

Bear spray it is, and comfort in numbers!
I'm not too worried. I just didn't know what to expect and be "that guy" that does something or brings something that entices a bear attack where none have happened before.
Looking forward to this trip! four-wheeling, photography and campfire shenanigans! What could be better!

WOW Ive missed the past few weeks, been really busy, can someone give me clifnotes of the last 10 pages?
We are still planning on coming and bringing 2 trucks atleast. Still have to figure out what meats to bring.( will likely be burgers and dogs given the numbers im seeing on the first page. were going to need a few grills though.

We may have to split into several groups or go at different times. Any more that 6 or 7 in a group becomes a handful...

Orders just got cancelled, so that means i'll make it out to this! Pumped to finally be able to put faces with screen names!
Whats the food situation? Group food and everyone bring something or is it every man for themselves? im good both ways.
Also im guessing were all sharing a camp site? Pay for my share when I get there or what?

We have the entire area of camp#2- it's pretty big and we will have plenty of room!
Saturday night is a cookout at the campsight sponsored by Scott's new shop GT Peace. It's a pot-luck type of event and they are having burgers and dogs.
All other meals are up to you.
When you get to the Cove- stop at the office and you can pay there- all the rates are on the first page of this thread (lots of info for you there).

So as I just found out this week, I will be having surgery on my neck. This is going to remove me from the list. I'm extremely bummed by this as I have never looked more forward to a trip then this one. I wish you all a fun and safe trip. ( I may be mostly sad I have to miss out on trying all the new meat.) I will look forward to this trip next year. Sorry I have to be that guy that says he is coming and pulls out at the last second!

I missed a few posts re: astro shots. If you're interested, bring your gear and I'll teach you what (little) I know. Kit lenses can capture the milky way... especially in the (hopefully) ideal conditions we should have - new moon, low/no humidity, bourbon-induced creative eye....

Also, if we see bears, it's because they like beer, beef and crude jokes. I'm all in for hanging out with them.
