There fixed it...lol. Hey you know any good guides for elk up there? I still have time to get one here, but want to come up there to get one too! Sometime next year that is.

I still don't know anything about this Swaziland that you speak of.....
 
We will be there next year...come hell or highwater....hopefully no highwater. We wish we were going to be there this year. [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] had enough gas after that meal to do a cross country road trip. Be warned when feeding him...hahaha

I'm gonna repost what I sent last night so I can get things organized.

Ok everyone!

Today when I spoke to Willis I asked him about the trail runs. He said he would provide a few trail maps for us (they do not give them out without a fight- so DON"T ASK!). Maybe we won't get "lost" as much this year... We can use the trails at any time during the day- absolutely NO night runs on the trails. Here's the deal- with the possibility of 30+ vehicles on the trails we will need to actually organize things a little better this year. We should probably limit each group to about 6-8 vehicles. SO....

I am going to need some volunteers for trail guides. People with offroad/recovery experience, and maybe some GPS/mapping capability (so they can lead the group back if they get turned around). Maturity and safety are of paramount importance! If we are not respectful on the trails we will lose our privileges at The Cove.

That said, I would like to have 5 or 6 volunteers for the trail guides! (I make enough decisions in my day to day job, so I prefer to follow someone else for a change, lol.)

One other thing- FAIR WARNING. The trails at The Cove are not clearly defined as "easy", or "difficult". Sometimes we run into an obstacle that stock vehicles can't overcome and that person will have to turn around. We try not to have this happen- but it usually does.

What say you volunteers?! :fishing:

I can take a group, I'll try to bring a good spotter as well. I have been to the Cove a couple of times for Big Doggs events, but I'll still need a trail map. I would prefer all trucks in my group to have CBs. I'll be running HemaExplorer.

Thanks! I agree- most of us have had CB's- at least we try to put those with CB's at the front and back of the group...

I will update with a CB channel and all that the day before we leave.

Too late?

So I've not been on the Forum in awhile. I've read through much of the thread ,but not all. I didn't see anything about a deadline. I'm off Friday now so I could wheel Friday and Saturday but will probably have to leave Sunday morning. Is it too late? I've wheeled the heck out of my FJ but this will be the first time in my wife's 4Runner off-road. She's given me approval to take it though! This will also be my first time to the Cove.

I have no problem spotting and helping out where needed. But leading not so much, never been there so don't want to lead. If you give me a map with lat long or mgrs we could possibly work something out. I don't trust the gps maps on tablets or smart phones too much anymore. I'll show you the body damage as to why next weekend...

What you see above is the only map I've ever seen of The Cove...

I don't know how detailed the map is that they supposedly have...
 
Ant, I'll take a group if needed. I agree, best map I've seen, and I've hunted hell and half the internet as well. Would love to get a hi rez scan of that and do an overlay with google earth. Looks like it was done with Garmin software so someone probably has a rasterized file.

Hey everyone- I'm starting to get everything organized here!

We have 2 volunteers thanks Sleeter and OneGreenTaco) so far for trail guides, it would be nice to get 3 or 4 more. Anyone?

On another note-

Since Scott and the folks at GTPeace will be providing us with a cookout Saturday night (remember to bring something) and we will all be gathered together, I want to have the...

First Annual Cove Pumpkin Carving Contest

One prize (a nice one!) has already been donated by OneGreenTaco. If we can have more donations, we will have more winners- 1st -3rd, scariest, funniest, etc. Depends on the prizes.

RULES:

*Bring your own pumpkin!

*Only 1 pumpkin per vehicle (We can't judge 100 pumpkins, lol)

*No offensive carvings (kids will be there!)

*Judges will be independent and appointed. Maybe The Cove Staff will judge and they can join in our cookout...

*Nothing can be used except for the pumpkin. No toothpicks, decorations, paint or anything else. You can use a candle or light inside, obviously.

*No Pre-carved pumpkins! We will all carve together at the same time.

*It would be a good idea to bring a pre-cleaned-ready to carve pumpkin.

*No bribing the judges (you know someone will try, lol)



*Carving starts at 6:30pm judging at 8:30pm

The apprehension is killing me - Have read for a few months this planning thread. Ready to view some photos and videos - - - :usa2:

This is far more exciting than the Donald Trump / Hillary Clinton crap.

It's always fun to see what the people on the other end of the country are doing off-road; after all you have trees, water, mud, grass and other strange stuff to ramble through.
