October Camping Trip #5- THE COVE!!!

Sorry for not being able to post on this yet. This looks like it will be an awesome time! I will be hopefully getting there a little after noon, if I can wake up. I worked three 24 hour shifts this week so I do need to sleep. Jeff save me a spot next to you, make sure there are two trees about 20 feet apart...

I am still on the fence about bringing my mountain bike. We'll see how I feel. It's a fatbike so I'm not zooming anywhere...

I'm also bringing my tshirt from the first trip so no one thinks I'm a noob, lol...
 
Loaded mostly up. Going to the shop for a few hours and then Will head up hopefully around 12ish. So should be there by 1-2. Hoping to unload and find a trail buddy. Gotta test this 3rd gen out. Rear locker + bald tires FTW.

I've cropped and georeferenced the topo map and saved it off as separate kmz and gpx files. This will make for an for easy import to conventional GPS units for the weekend. It's not perfect, but it will definitely provide a workable digital map to navigate from.

In other words, these files will display as a picture of the trail map on your GPS and your position will be overlayed on top of the picture, showing where you are on the trails.

These files will also open in software like Google Earth or Garmin Basecamp on a desktop/laptop at home. Unfortunately, the mobile version of Google earth, GaiaGPS, etc. won't display the picture overlay, just the track and waypoints (which I already posted earlier in this thread as an incomplete example).

Probably not helpful to folks that are already en route, but figured I'd post it up for anybody that might still be headed out tomorrow and want to load it up on their GPS/run it this weekend.

Again, the t4r.org forum software won't let me upload these files without renaming them as a workaround (had to add a ".pdf" to the end of each file). Just remove the .pdf before using the files and you shouldn't have any issues.

My Garmin is a 765T...so no custom KMZ maps for me. I'll have to build an img map. I found one free App that does correctly open the KMZ and show the overlay offline...OSMNavigator. Couldn't find much else that would handle the png overlay layer and display it.

I've got some maps done. Not great...far better than what we've had. I put as much info as I could find from all maps (5 different sources) onto the first one. Should be accurate (Lat/Long). I put ??? places I have no info on. Hopefully folks will help fill in the blanks. The second map is the cartoon version, not drawn to scale, but does have a lot of the info on it and is less "busy"



I have the raw ppt I used to make these as well as jpeg, but both are too large to upload here. I made these to print on legal size (8.5"x14")



I did print 15 copies to bring.



Carlos, this should work to make a overlay and help get this rasterized. Maybe we can have this on phones soon.

I found that close to the lake and up over the hill past the port potty on site 2 is the quietest. Lake spots go quick. The middle of camp tends to be nosiest.

Ah, that's a bummer [MENTION=132027]OneGreenTaco[/MENTION]. So .gpx files with custom maps won't work for that unit either then? In any case, at least you'll have the great hardcopies that you sent out yesterday.

Hey Antman, forgive me as I did search through about 60 pages of your build thread to try to find the answer to my question to no reward. I am curious about what you have plugged in the back of your rig and more so what it's charging?

To clarify: No one (well at least not me) is stocking [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION], a very similar question was just asked a few days ago.....but if someone has a complete index of [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] that would be nice

Holy cheet man, I am glad it wasn't a snake....I must have looked at that page 3-4 times, thanks [MENTION=96008]Engineer[/MENTION]. I am sure he is having fun, the Cove is an awesome campground. I want to join in, my rig's just not where I want it to be yet for the type of stuff I want it to do, lol. Soon enough....maybe next year.
 
so i thought i would be almost there by now... but i'm still at the office. i don't think i want to make the drive tomorrow for just one night, so i'm not going to be able to make it this year. you all have fun for me though.

[MENTION=132027]OneGreenTaco[/MENTION] tells the best stories, [MENTION=115941]Apex Overland[/MENTION] is a great trail captain and maybe the worlds best spotter, [MENTION=137555]Sleeter[/MENTION] is a great trail captain and he and his wife are top notch people. [MENTION=60893]Diver Deuce[/MENTION] and his wife ( great chilli and carne asada BTW) are the best camp neighbors and people you can't be around enough. [MENTION=3442]Boyds4Runner[/MENTION] [MENTION=68689]Pkniland[/MENTION] and all the people whose forum names I can't remember - thanks for a great time. It was worth getting a little trail rash.
