October Camping Trip, The Cove #6

Hey all!

Statistically this thread has always been opened up in the 5th gen section, so I'd like to keep that up. But it is open to all generations of the 4Runner. I will be sure to post up a link in the off-road section as well.

This will be the sixth year this trip has been held in the same location!

Sadly, [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] will likely not make it this year, so I promise to do my best to fill his shoes. He will be missed, but we will look forward to seeing him out with us again next year. I have already contacted the Cove and secured the dates. Keep reading on for details....

"For those that have never been before, this trip is a great opportunity to meet some fellow forum enthusiasts, and the ability to take your 4Runner off the beaten path for a weekend of fun!

The Cove offers everything from gravel access roads to mud pits to hard core rock crawling!

You will enjoy rustic camping (no water or electricity at the campsites, only a spot-a-pot, picnic table and fire ring), fishing, shooting at a new improved range, exploring and awesome conversations at the campfire at night.

We are extremely fortunate that the great staff at The Cove opens their trail network up to us for this event! They have very specific rules that only allow trail riding for large events (we are not a large event for them), and we have earned their trust and approval."

Weather Forecast

* Arrive early Friday Morning 10/27/17 and leave early Monday morning 10/30/17 or anytime during that time-frame. (Most folks come in on Friday or Saturday and leave Sunday Morning.)

* $17 each person per night.

* $25 per vehicle "Trail Use" fee.

* $10 per day rifle range fee (only if/when you plan to shoot)

*Saturday night cookout/Pot Luck dinner (I've spoken with Shawn from GT Peace and they are looking forward to this again.)

*Cooking Contest and Scavenger Hunt (prizes)

Notes: Friendly dogs are allowed.

We've been waiting for this! Sad to hear [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] can't make it this year, but we're always looking forward to getting together with other enthusiasts. I'm 99.7% sure we're in. I think I'll probably bring my 4th gen this year. Those narrow trails weren't friendly to the mag gray

Like last year though I will have to cut it short on Saturday for a Lacrosse tournament.

An off-roading trip to look forward to again!

Some trails are technical while others are not. I did all the trails my first year completely stock. I do recommend you remove running boards before coming out. I think we'll probably split up into a few groups based on who wants to do what trails. And.. you can always park your rig and ride with someone. [emoji6]

A few members here did a ton of work - [MENTION=137555]Sleeter[/MENTION] being one of them - to get the trails more properly mapped out. Before that though, Josh with @apexoverland led us on a "green" trail that ended up not so green.

Besides my needing to peel my fingers from the wheel after we were done, we managed relatively unscathed. We were in our spacer lifted LE with stock size K02s, sliders and a fuel skid. We definitely used the armor and popped the rear bumper cover off (snaps right back on) on a stump in a tight spot. Overall, it was great! We had great spotters and a group that knew what they were doing.

A cool spot OP for sure...used to live in NOVA in 2010-2012 and me and the boys would shoot on the "half circle" range area....highlight was the time some dude brought all the tannerite ...also a good area for trails and scenery.

Just got my first T4R, would love to go back...long ways away now!

I did most of the trails during the first event in a stock 5th gen I'd taken off the lot maybe 7 days prior. Lots of stock fun to be had. I ended up with some pin stripes, but they mostly buffed out.

I'm 80% in for this year. Working on moving to Colorado... but if I'm still on this side of the country I'll be there with some steak and guns.
