Odd issue

My 4runner is going through coolant like crazy. There isn't any coolant in the oil, and I can't find a leak point. I don't see it under ride. I've checked the exhaust, but its hard to differentiate steam from the coolant being burned and steam from it being cold outside.

I've got to do a pressure check.

Any suggestions?

3vz.

1993 SR5 4wd.

I know they have head gasket issues, I'm calling to see if the recall has been addressed on this vehicle tomorrow. If it hasn't, I"ll try to get them to fix it. If it has, and I find out it is the head gasket, then I'll just have to tear it down :/

Headgaskets suck to do on the 3vz, but they are doable. Make sure to take lots of pics of your vacuum lines before you tear it apart.

Will do my father in law will be helping. He owned a Toyota pickup for YEARS with the 3.0 and has done them numerous times.

A quick and easy way to get an idea what's going on is to do a pressure check of the cooling system.

There's a hydrocarbon tester available at some car quest or napa stores.

It's very easy to use. You can get a vacuum unit or one with a hand pump.
You pour the color changing dye into the tube. Cone shape end is a one way valve. It get inserted in radiator( be sure to not let it suck up coolant).
Start the truck with the cap off and let the (sniffer) sniff the coolant as your engine gets to operating temp. If the dye changes color exhaust gas is entering coolant system.
