Odd KDSS observation?

I've previously read that KDSS unlocks at 12mph or less so as to not reduce stability at higher speeds on the road.

But I *think* I noticed something cool yesterday.

It seemed like when I switched into 4WD Hi yesterday on a dirt road, KDSS stayed uncoupled (softer ride) at speeds over 12mph.

I thus wondered if anyone else had confirmed or noticed this?

It'd make tons of sense, as you're unlikely to encounter high speed turns while offroading, and if this is how KDSS works, it'd be nice to know that I can reduce washboarding a bit and soften the ride just by switching to 4Hi the moment pavement ends.

If i had a Gopro with a magnetic mount I'd give it a try and watch the piston. Not sure how else you could really check that out.

Someone here who lives in Hawaii already did that, just can't remember who

It locks up at speed from my observations. The pistons are not designed to move at high velocity. It may not be exactly 12mph but it is the ballpark..

Don't think 4wd has any impact on the system, but it might. You may have just been encountering even bumps where the sway-bar does not impact spring rates much.

Some have unplugged the system to keep it open.. but very unproven from a longevity perspective.
