odd storage bin

I keep my IPOD in there along with some computer monitor cleaning wipes for the nav. It stays closed all the time since I bought an AIC-100 unit to operate the IPOD via my nav screen.

Speaking of the armrest bin, I wish it was two tier like my Camry.

I wonder why Toyota did not make that a feature of the T4R? Maybe they figured 4Runner owners have bigger "stuff" cuz they like bigger vehicles.

Still, at least I was able to finally find the junior-size tissue boxes to fit in that rather odd "tissue box holder" in the lid.

I couldn't find any in that size. I though in Japan they have some small. Which one have you found?

I was thinking about getting a slanted metal piece fabbed that would replace the door and allow me to mount electronics (ipod/ ham radio face/etc) to the front.
It would be angled back so that I could easily read the displays.

Shouldn't be too hard to do.

I'm not sure if you'll find them in Canada but at my local Walgreens drug store I found boxes of Kleenex tissues in "junior" size that fit in the lid and cost about $1.50 a box.

It was the first time I'd seen that size box and it only seems to be available at certain drug stores, not in supermarkets.

tissues

found them at walgreens (drug store) here in nc.

i already have the sirius set up, (that was going to be the original spot), and got the ipod connection in the arm rest, dont really care about mechanical performance....any other easy ideas? is it strong enough to hold change?

I actually think some of the storage spaces in the T4R are a little too big. What do folks do with their center console storage bin for example?

Well, I went to Target last week and picked up a lunch pail cooler - the small ones fit perfectly in our deep console.

Given that I live in sunny LA, I'm tired of reaching for my sunglasses/mp3 workout player/cellphone and having to wait until they cool down after a long day of parking the car in the heat.

Cool (literally). I'll hunt for one at Target. Which aisle should I look in? I've never bought lunch cooler before!

I got mine from Walgreens here in the States. The design sort of matches the door panels. :D

In the armrest.

Heh... I got the same pattern too! Is Walgreens the only place that sells this size box?!

One minor issue is that the box is obviously designed for tissues to be pulled out sideways from a flat surface. First time I tried pulling them out vertically from the armrest I had a battle with the box and ended up yanking about 10 torn tissues out.

they sell them at walmart as well. however, it's not very convenient to use that slot for the reason you mentioned. i have one at the same spot mostly for the show.

I'm not sure... I thought I saw in Luxury's thread, he mentioned it's also available at Walmart. Don't tell me you got it from the Walgreens on 40th too. :D

Hehe... that's why mine's unopened, might end up being the first and last box I buy for that pocket, unless someone spills something inside my truck. :bash: I got tissue and napkins in that shelf/bin spot above the glove box.

I keep the remote to my carpc and 802.11g/USB dongle in there.

I am planning to use that area to install and aftermarket lcd screen.

Are concerned about visibility with the screen mounted that low?

Pip, try the camping section of either Target or Walmart. The smallest ones are all uniform size and really do fit very nicely in the console. The one I found (Igloo brand) just happened to have a neat little lid on the top which is velcroed down. Very easy to get to your stuff without having to unzip the entire top portion of the cooler.

Usually, I keep my faceplate in the console when I leave the car for short periods; otherwise, the cooler holds my sunglasses. Click on the link to see pics of the stereo including installation if you're interested. I'm also getting a remote control for my back up camera, so that'll also go in my little cooler.

XM Radio

That door hides all the wiring for my Skyfi2 XM rcvr (power and antenna).
With a small hole, I was able to mount the radio onto the door for a VERY clean look. The only down side is I limited use of the left cup holder.
Just in case, I bought a spare door if I ever wanted to get rid of the radio.
