Odd thing happened with my 2 week old truck today

Started to the truck to leave work, got onto the road and noticed that my ABS light was on (steady) and the little truck sitting on top of a table top icon was flashing. I pulled over, turned off the truck removed key opened door closes door and restarted it up and the lights were gone. Didn't come back after that. Random electrical thing?

Hi Daohaus,

I just did a write-up about "False WARNINGS"; which I suspect that your's is because you haven't done any MODS or damaged anything e.g., wheel sensors, raised the body...etc! I don't know what the temperature has been where you live, but if the interior has gone beyond 100 deg F., the ECU's (Electronic Control Units) are cooking in the dash; which manage those instrument cluster warnings (but they're NOT supposed to generate them independently)...

I've been experiencing that too this week, but when I checked it with my Tech-Stream Tool there were NO error codes to be found, so I just hit CLEAR, and the warning icons went away! Thanks, odd thing was I deliberately parked in the shade today to avoid the afternoon sun. Ambient was high 80's.

Just a comment about heat affecting the 4Runner's brain. I have had mine for 2 Phoenix summers now and have never had that problem. In June, the exterior thermometer of the truck showed 122 degrees F. when I started her up. I would tend to believe that it is more likely the fuse, as described in the above link...Mark

Definitely not, parked out in an open parking lot so not touching those buttons. Even then you'd have to hold down that traction button for x seconds to turn off abs right

There is no button to set off an ABS warning light.
Take it to the dealer, they can scan it and pull ABS codes to see what it was. A basic scan tool won't pick up ABS codes.

...forgot to mention,

my TPMS icon came on today and one day last wk as well; with no error codes thrown, so that's just from the heat building up! Simple problem but that's why I did this write-up!

I have read some BMW 's will auto crack the windows just a tiny bit to allow some airflow to assist in avoiding this problem. Tesla has an auto hvac standby mode to avoid hot electronics (per Hoovies Garage). I have vent visors to crack the windows.

Usually caused by a stretched/broken ABS sensor wire.

Perhaps consistent steady-state temperature and humidity in a controlled, closed system vs fluctuating environment have an impact.

Heat is a way of life in Phoenix. I have owned many cars and I have never seen heat cause this problem. I doubt that the factory makes the cars sold in AZ any different than the same cars sold in Alaska.IMO, there is a different cause for this problem...Mark

Any chance that an ABS wire was stretched? They're pretty fragile.

I had the same lights + "multi terrain unavailable" warning earlier this year when my gas cap wasn't tightened properly... but it didn't go away that easily. after a couple days I disconnected the battery for 15 mins to make it go away.

there's no way heat is the issue, any ECU mounted inside a vehicle would be designed for heat well above 120 degrees (in just moderate climates interior temps will get over 120 degrees) and the vehicles are also heat tested as complete assemblies.

you probably just damaged an ABS wire

Would that develop over time? I've had the wheels on a little over a week now if the abs wire were starched wouldn't it come on right away?

And for it to come on and go away with me stopping and restarting the truck just seem like an electrical gremlin.

When I had my 3rd gen taco, my BSM light came on for no apparent reason shortly after owning the truck and it went away after I turned off and restarted the truck

I spoke too soon, started up the truck this morning to take the kids to school and shortly after startup I got the 3 lights. Turned it off and restarted and it stopped

Might have to make that trip to the dealer

Are all the tires at the same PSI? The ABS could sense differing tire RPMs especially since you got larger tires. Best to bring it in somewhere to plug in the ODBII reader to see the error code.

I run my truck often in temps well over 100. Never have a problem.
