Ode to my 4Runner
I saw you on the carousel, gleaming red, high above the other cars, and I knew I had to have you. I climbed up the stairs, you were unlocked, and I took you home in 1998. I treated you well, obeying all your maintenance requirements. I bought you seat covers so kid mess wouldn't mar you.
You repaid me by never breaking down in 16 years and 242K miles. You never had a flat tire, never had an accident.You took the kids to school, drove up and down the east coast many times, and have driven my grandson around. You were with me for 2 generations.
You've lugged every Christmas tree, had tree limbs and furniture on your roof and we always made it. You carried all my yoga supplies; kids’ soccer equipment; dirt, rocks and trees from Home Depot. You were slow, but that was ok, because I couldn't take any chances with you.
Every button and system still works. We became the only ones on the road with an antenna that still went up and down.You cost me nothing except routine maintenance and I haven’t had a car payment in 14 years.
Now that your engine is leaking oil, it is time for me to move on. Thank you red 4Runner.
