Ode to my truck

not much done today. The shop where my diffs are at is only open wed-fri. I'm running down tomorrow to see what is going on. Though, If i were gambling, (which I may be) I would bet that nothing has been done. No problem though as donor truck is driving well.

Little things tonight:
Installed a new CB as the old one had some recieveing issues...
Swept and picked up tools...
Greasing my terminals with dielecectric grease.



A look at marlin chromoly axles with 5000 miles on them :naughty:

 
We are finally back to it... I picked up my diffs and rear axle housing today from the shop who was to prep my rear housing and regearing me to 4.88's. (Yes, today, yes I did drop them off almost a month ago,)

Just for some broner porn,

Guy got my work because he is an enthusiast and hand built this bad boy, (Dana 60's, V8 etc.)

I pick up my diffs and take them home (50 min away) and work on fitting my rear housing to my newly geared 3rd member. Of course, once the studs are set in the housing, the posts are too waleyed to line up...



So now, (Sat is taken) Sun, I will be rewelding, drilling and tapping the housing again to make this work. (Might take some creative liberties as well. Should have done it myself the first time.

Despite setbacks, I got two new CV's put in with a newly regeared 4.88, some scavenged spacers from a fellow member... -In your eye Will- , put a new transmission filter and valve seals on my motor, tested my actuator and switch for the e-locker and am headed towards a rebuilt truck.

I got my woes set aside with my differential housing by bending som bolts and enlarging my holes. I had some concerns after talking with a friend about tapping into welded bits of metal. So, it's not as pretty as what I had in mind, but feel that the functionality is there. Slid my axles in to a crazy bottom out that prompted this conversation:

SO... once that ordeal was over,
put my brake systems back together, bolted up my other spacer and put tires on the whole truck. Had some buddies come by last night and put in the engine/transmission/transfer case. Coming along nice.:boink:

Went through the electrical system redoing all the clips down the transmission, starter connections, replaced all the accessories (alt. PS, AC) radiator, plennum, vaccum hoses. Time for lunch.

Finished up yester-evening by putting the rest together and filling with fluids. While it did not take long to say, was a late night job. Had a REDICULOUS time trying to fill the front diff from a 1 quart gear lube bottle... :brick:




So I finished off the night (while the server was busy) with a running truck that needed to burn off all the BP Blaster it was coated in.

-Today-

Finished up short tasks, airing up tires, torqueing CV joints, topping off fluids.

Drove out of the house with the locker engaged, binding all through my gravel. Had to follow a search to TTORA for a maunal elocker disengage write up. Thanks guys for that one... Drove it to my local shop for



duratracs. Figured I gotta run one set, may as well be now with the gears to push 'em.

Came back to the house to work on the wiring. All was good, but had a problem with the connections not being very tight. Odd, I may have grown some hulk hands from turning bolts and ripped the wires out, but I had a poor connection at the actuator that ended up with ALL the wires being pulled out. I really didn't think I pulled them, but I will be calling 12voltguy tomorrow to talk with him about a solution to me connector being... diswired. Tried stuffing it in and hoped that it would take, (that's what she said...) but I was ultimately pushing rope.



So, the switch is wired into my fusebox and we are just awaiting in red,

Those came from "Shearcomfort". I was originally concerned about the material as it has a foam backing instead of being like a wetsuit, But they are VERY comfortable and water beads off of them. They changed a lot about the feel of my truck, but I guess a newer engine, transmission, spacers, tires and the fact that I haven't driven it in 5 weeks... :playball:
 
whoops! Sorry ZGensler. Hadn't checked this thread in a while. Yes, a couple of the wires were pulled from the harness. Got a new harness in from 12 volt guy and sealed them extra nice with some liquid electrical tape
I now have about 25,000 miles on this truck since I finished.

The new diffs have broken in nicely and we are on our third fluid change with them to accomodate the break-in. No Check Engine lights, Tranny temps down around 170-200. Seems to be going well as far as the motor and transmission swap

I have been in the "smooth sailing" department for a while now which made me not get on the forum as much as I had during the build. However, recent issues have led to me "resparking" my activity.

Mostly; Issues with Upper Balljoints on my LR UCA's...
Second set in two years are officially shot...

Really nice work on the swap, looking way good! :guitar3: ditch the LR UCAs, quick search will reveal they are a garbage product :rip:

Yeah I hear that's the poop on the LR UCA's. I'm going to let SPC replace the balljoints this time and start saving for some Total Chaos...

I just didn't remember anyone having a problem like this when I bought them in 2013.... I hate buying things twice, especially at $450...:frusty:

I def hear that with TC, there is a thread about the Ebay UCAs, so eveyone is feeling the squeeze saving for the TC UCAs; would love to get ahold of their LT setup for my gen 2:lol:

How's the 3.4 pulling that small tent trailer? A setup I wouldn't mind talking the lady-friend into a similar popup

The lady friend is mostly the reason that I have this thing. :drama: I end up using it for work but she likes heaters and a place to put dogs when we go camping,
but the truck is great with it. These popups trail like crap anyhow with fishtail, but there is plenty of power. It only weighs about 500 lbs, so I don't even take it out of OD. (4.88's though) :dance:

It's cromolly. They're expensive but I got a pretty good deal from a guy that never installed it.
