Odometer Not Working 1996

Okay so my 1996 has the non-digital odometer that has stopped working. The speedometer works fine. The issue started several years ago when I would reset the tripometer. Neither the tripometer or the odometer would work for a little bit. Eventually I quit resting the tripometer and it was okay. But the odometer has finally quit as well.

Anyone ever have this issue and fix it? I assume a gear in the instrument cluster as failed. Before I get a used one and tear mine apart I figured I would ask.

I'd venture to guess so. Probably would be pretty awesome to document the procedure since I'm sure fellow members would be interested in what is all there.

It could be the broken trip odometer, one of the many little black plastic arms probably called it a day. Of course verify before you begin and watch out for the tiny wires I posted in my thread.

I was able to salvage a trip odo (you don't need the entire assembly) out of a junkyard part somebody else had broken and left laying there.

There are similar arms on the odo too. A screw augers runs a gear that runs both odometers at the same time. If one gets stuck-as was my case- the other can't move.

Good luck, I hope it's that simple, and that you find a usable one if it is that, and watch those dumb super-tiny wires!!!

Hmmm, it seems if it is a broken trip odo and you can't source a working version you could remove enough of the trip odo actuator bits to let its grey gear move freely. You'd have a non-working trip odo with a free-spinning gear that the auger would be able to move which would allow the odo gear to also move.

The odo has a similar assembly, so if no breaks on the trip odo...
and obviously without seeing/ being able to mess with it I am only speculating-
let us know what you come up with.

When mine malfunctioned I bought a whole head replacement on ebay for around $50. There were so many for sale that I was able to find one with the mileage within 100 of where I was currently at.
