Odometer While Towing

I am looking at a 1989 4Runner with a manual transmission and just under 500,000 miles. The pictures I have seen show a front bumper attachment for flat towing behind an RV. My question is, can mileage accrue while being towed?

Just a heads up Marlin of Marlin Crawler says the rear output shaft bearings of the transfer case doesn't get properly lubed when flat towed even with trans and t/c in neutral. At 500k your t/c may be proof otherwise.

That is absolutely true! That's why its been published all over the place to disconnect the rear driveshaft when towing a toyota truck, regardless of whether its manual or automatic.

If its been towed for a good portion of its life (hence, the 500k on the odo), its possible that the transmission will need work. Toyotas are strong vehicles, but that's a ton of miles to put on it without any moving lubrication while towing.
