OEM Caliper Coating?

Like many of you, I discovered my lower inner piston seized. I had already purchased 4th gen rotors and pads so I didn't want to upgrade to 5th gen for the time being. I ended up deciding on OEM calipers for 224/ea. I figure the originals lasted this long maybe it'll be worth the extra dough. Anyway, I received the calipers and they appear to be bare. Either that or perhaps they are galvanized? I'm wondering if I need to coat them before installing.

Give them a few weeks, they'll be nice and rusty.[emoji6] I want to get mine powdercoated but I don't want it being down for a week and losing all the brake fluid. I've heard when that happens you have to bleed the MC but I'm not positive on that.

Clean them with brake cleaner and paint them with the caliper paint of your choice. Give them a few good coats, install them then touch up.

I coated mine with ceramic 9h coating. Pretty much makes it super easy to clean. I had a friend hook me up though with the ceramicpro 9h. I used it on my wheels too. Might want to consider at least clear coating it with high temperature paint to protect the calipers from the elements.

Where it seizes up is between the piston and sleeve.
Liberally apply grease under each piston boot, to aid in preventing that.

It's best to bleed the entire system to get fresh fluid in there.
Part of preventing corrosion.

I am taking a chance on the Centric Posi-Quiet loaded calipers due to they are powder coated. Some fancy gold color, not my color of choice. Time will tell. :clock:

My local import supplier has them in stock, saved on shipping of the cores.

I got 11 months out of a set.

0/10 would not buy again.

Some guy on reddit mentioned caliper coats hinder heat dissipation. He seemed pretty confident. I'm also erring on the side of skepticism.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm inclined to install them as is. I don't think a Toyota dealership would coat these before installing. I don't care if they look a little rusted after awhile either.

There's just as many napa remans and other brands that are failing.

I had 5th gen centric calipers for 30k miles before selling my prior 4runner. I think it has more to do with location/salted roads when it comes to remans. You're not going to get an OEM quality part for 1/4 the price.

Sorry to hear about your experience .

Which grade of Centric caliper did you use?
Were the Caliper pistons and seals lubed properly during install?

FWIW - I am not using 5th Gen calipers, but yeah, I have heard.

I typically hose off my undercarriage after each winter snow, so I may be unusual.

I'll keep everyone informed of my experiences with the Fancy Gold Caliper! :hat:

I had centrics that came in the same silver, thought it was painted and it'd be fine. Wrong.

They rusted within weeks and my FR froze within the first year. I even bought G2? caliper paint and decided not to do it since it looked like a decent finish.

I do live in NOVA and had them installed in Feb so Im sure salt helped it rust quicker.
